“It is a wholesome and unifying demand – one that all of us should be able to get behind. We must not be distracted by a small number of lawbreakers. The protests are defined by tens of thousands of people of conscience who are insisting that we live up to our values – our values as people and our values as a nation.”
Mattis criticized the administration for using force Monday to clear away peaceful protesters near the White House for Trump and top officials, including current Defense Secretary Mark Esper, to walk to a nearby church for a brief photo op.
Citing the oath he took to uphold the U.S. Constitution when he joined the military a half century ago, Mattis said he never imagined that American troops would be called on to violate the rights of citizens “to provide a bizarre photo op for the elected commander-in-chief, with military leadership standing alongside.”
Without naming Esper, Mattis condemned his reported use of the word “battlespace” during a conference call Monday between Trump, administration officials and state governors to describe American cities experiencing riots.
“At home, we should use our military only when requested to do so, on very rare occasions, by state governors,” Mattis said. “Militarizing our response, as we witnessed in Washington, D.C., sets up a conflict — a false conflict — between the military and civilian society. It erodes the moral ground that ensures a trusted bond between men and women in uniform and the society they are sworn to protect, and of which they themselves are a part.

A lot of conservatives totally get it about Trump.
On the other hand, perhaps BillGates and Soros set up a swiss bank account for him ? Hahahaha, I said it, but I know TPB was thinking it before I said it.
What does this have to do with Mattis and his claims about Trump.
Because Mattis doesn't want US Troops deployed by Trump to keep order, though this has happened countless times in the last century. The Media is saying "Orange Man Bad for threatening to use Army! Trump's former Top General Agrees! Orange Man must be Bad!" Yet the Governor of Minnesota already did so, and the MSM did not shriek "Walz Man Bad!".
So if it's okay for one Executive, why not another?
I actually don't totally disagree with Mattis. On the other hand he's a former military leader. He'd do best to stay in his lane and discuss those kinds of topics. While people can have varying skills outside of their chosen profession or even opinions, that doesn't mean they know all the details of a situation or topic. Domestic issues are not his expertise.
There's no one here that has details on potential domestic terrorist intel/threats. Mattis' comments are no different than someone posting here, even if he formerly worked with the POTUS. If Trump is going to use the military just for the fun of it, then yes, that's bad.
There's no evidence of that. I have to give the benefit of the doubt that he may have information of larger hostilities potentially brewing and it might be a scare tactic to squash any reasonable person from thinking of rioting and looting. There may be no intention of using the military and it's just typical Trump bravado. If it stops people from rioting/looting, I'm all for the bravado.
In a 1973 article in Time magazine, Harry Truman was quoted as having said, off the record, in the early 1960s: “I fired him because he wouldn’t respect the authority of the president. I didn’t fire him because he was a dumb son of a ***, although he was, but that’s not against the law for generals. If it was, half to three-quarters of them would be in jail.”
Mattis is still angry that Trump wouldn’t give him the endless war he wanted in the Middle East. He got all worked up that the President wanted to draw down troops in Afghanistan and with draw from that hopeless pointless war where they’re using military to oppress the people. He couldn’t get enough of it over there. So he threw a fit and resigned in a huff. But now he’s decided he wants a lucrative gig as a consultant on MSNPC so he’s going to criticize his ex boss. Fuck him!
