*Why the cultural elite truly despises Hanukkah*
https://nypost.com/2020/12/09/why-the-cultural-elite-truly-despises-hanukkah/

Our cultural elites’ least favorite Jewish holiday has arrived: Hanukkah, of course.

Why did Hanukkah irk everyone from the late Christopher Hitchens, who memorably derided it as a “celebration of tribal Jewish backwardness,” to author Sarah Prager, who took to the pages of The New York Times recently to explain that she won’t be teaching her kids about it?

Well, because Hanukkah is about as out of step with the contemporary elite consensus as any religious tradition can be.

If you haven’t reviewed the story in a while, here’s how it goes. One fine day in 167 BC, a crowd of Jews was gathered in the town square of Modi’in, a suburb of Jerusalem.

They were there because the Seleucid Empire — the successors of Alexander the Great’s expansive dynasty — had recently moved into town. The conquerors believed that their Greek culture was the only path to enlightenment. The Seleucids had resolved to Hellenize this peculiarly stubborn people, the Jews, and they sought out the right kind of Jewish collaborator — you know, those who weren’t too bearded or too weird — to persuade the rest of the locals to abandon their backward mountain God and primitive laws.

And then, just as one of those Hellenizing Jews stepped up to sacrifice to almighty Zeus, out came a priest named Mattathias. Having precisely zero patience for idolatry, the fiery-eyed zealot killed not only the Jewish collaborator but the Seleucid governor, as well. Mattathias thus launched a war — partly an internal Jewish conflict, partly a rebellion against Greek imperial power — that would end with that well-publicized victory of the priest and his sons, the Maccabees, aided by one miraculous vat of oil.

So what’s Hanukkah truly about?

Simple: It’s about the rootedness of tradition against the imperialism of cosmopolitanism. If you were a Jew at that time, you basically had two choices: You could love the beauty of your ancestral heritage and love it no matter what, or you could watch as the ruling class attempted to recreate the social order in its own universalist image — and hope that your acceptance by the powerful would somehow substitute for the loss of family, community and tradition.

Plus ça change. . . This is why the story of Hanukkah still makes so many people, particularly in elite, technocratic quarters, so uncomfortable. Unlike other Jewish holidays, such as Passover, this one can’t be reduced to a stripped-down celebration of bourgeois, liberal values: “It’s about going on long journeys of self-discovery!” “It’s about the unending quest for tolerance and inclusion!”

Hanukkah is a story about national and religious aspiration, about the beauty that comes from belonging somewhere in particular. And how the refusal to follow the empty pieties of the ruling class of the time kept the Jewish people together. It’s a story that horrifies the mandarins of liberal modernity. But it should reassure the rest of us.

Remember, after all, that the greatest moments in American history have come not when we’ve severed ourselves from our traditional sources but when we’ve consecrated ourselves to them. Think Abraham Lincoln reinterpreting the Declaration of Independence as an aspiration rather than a description of fact or Martin Luther King Jr. telling and retelling the story of Moses for a nation still mired in the idolatry of racism.

Let’s not kid ourselves: The American culture war isn’t going anywhere, and it increasingly isn’t a war between left and right, Democrats and Republicans, the coasts and the heartland. Rather, we confront two radically different visions of society. One views the very idea of rootedness as inhibiting progress and prosperity. It regards tradition as, at best, just another amusing pastime like bird watching or online gaming, easily discarded at the first sign of inconvenience — at worst, as the enemy of true human fulfillment, which requires us to unburden ourselves of all received wisdom, all inherited obligations.

But there are also those of us who’ve learned the lesson of Hanukkah. We realize that the rush to denounce our old traditions means squandering the greatest societal good we have. For it is precisely in understanding that we come from somewhere — that our past puts obligations upon us in the present — that we’ll help create an American future that is not just great, but good.

Happy Hanukkah.

This and similar tweets from Trump are pathetic.
He claims fraud(everyone knows it happened) and no action. On 20th he will be shown door.
I am not sure why all this resistance, If he had no plan or way to "fight" the election fraud. We understand he is not dictator and can't control everything.
He could have just nicely conceded without wasting citizen's time.

Now the otehr theory is that He has everything but in no hurry to use the nuclear option until at last moment.. if true it is testing people's patience as I am seeing on twitter.
If he meekly goes out now, The republicans who supported him are finished..unless they are also plants by rich folks to install insiders.

Are you ready to pick up a sword and set up a hanging platform?

It may cost you your life, and you realize that. This is why you hesitate.

We have a completely criminal government, it's a total criminal syndicate. It's never been more obvious - this is the value of religion, people are willing to die for an ideal, atheists, they aren't. This is a true test of faith, and this is why religious faith is attacked in totalitarian governments.

I'm an atheist but as I see this shit go on, I find I'm fining my faith come back. We cannot let this stand. If death is the end, it still is a responsibility that we prevent these assholes from running the world. Some things are worth dying for.

113340   krc   2020 Dec 23, 1:25pm

No one wants a civil war. That is why nothing is going to happen. Trump needs to start a populist party and get a ground game that can aggressively fight the fraud or use the same techniques as the dems (ballot harvesting, etc...). If you think about it, more "counties" by far are controlled by the "right". No reason we can't take big city machine techniques and be even more effective in rural areas. Kick the dems out of the polling stations in the rural areas just as they do, collect unfilled ballots and fill them out, ignore signature validation, etc... We just need to learn to get into the mud.

Anyone following the court decisions last year and early this year new the plan. It was obvious. But the state legislatures did NOTHING.

3rd parties have a hard time breaking into the system, but if anyone could do it that person would be Trump.

Religion is made to look worse than it actually is by intolerant communists.
I have seen Atheists don't bother that much as they have their own beliefs but don't want to force them on others, Although "godless communist religion" take atheists in their fold very often as everyone needs something to believe in and have faith in.

Most of the loveliest/nicest people in my life are "faithful Sikhs" who truly believes in following Sikh scriptures:
Treat Everyone Equally
Make an honest income by honorable methods.
Share earnings and selflessly serve others.

Anybody heard anything about AZ vote last Wed? Couldn't find any mention of it anywhere. Probably didn't have the votes again.
113344   Ceffer   2020 Dec 25, 10:16pm

It may just happen, only because the election fraudsters are looking for ratlines. If they give Trump the state electors, then maybe the heat and light of the investigations won't throw some of them in jail.

Arizona, Georgia, and Wisconsin would turn the election to Trump without the Insurrection Act or martial law. In Wisconsin, they only have to examine and throw out about twenty or thirty thousand illegitimate mail in ballots to turn the election there. It is a tedious process, however, even though they estimated that over 200,000 ballets were illegal.

I don't know if NOT utilizing the Insurrection Act would be wise, because the fraud needs to be traced down to its roots, and I can't see any other way to do it.

Supposedly, the FBI is finally opening up a formal investigation. However, I would not regard that as a good thing, since 'a la Barr' they would probably just use their authority to do the witness intimidation and threat and collect evidence to destroy it or hide it for private blackmail purposes.

Remember all those FBI agents going over Epstein Island with a fine tooth comb. After Barr's dramatic publicity announcement about getting to the bottom of it, NOT A PEEP SINCE. FBI and DOJ are case undertakers, not investigators or prosecutors.

I also love it when Barr's DOJ would dramatically say they can't discuss ongoing cases when there were no ongoing cases, just subterfuge for cases they never intend to pursue. "Oh, they're on it, it's all coming out any day now!" LOLZ!

It's 1933 again.

That gorgeous building pictured of San Mateo High School was built in 1927, looks more like something on a college campus. I think it's a style called Collegiate Gothic, used on many campuses then. The district was founded in 1902 and one can only imagine the great educations generations received in those halls through the middle part of the 20th century, then everything fell apart. I expect the disappointment those early generations would have in the poor stewardship of subsequent generations would be tremendous.

This is just the beginning. When you pray at the alter of Equality, you have an infinite amount of people that have been treated unfairly and you always need villains to save them from. White christian males aren't enough, soon Jews, asians..anyone who is successful, anyone who is normal.

They will eat their own, just like feminism is being destroyed by the trans movement and criminal equity that let's rapists out of jail immediately to terrorize their victims.

Any religion with an ethos is next. Any merit based system in society will be destroyed. You can't have any wealth differences, yada yada...basically communism is on the way if we don't replace equality with freedom.

Right, by which you mean "equality of outcome regardless of effort, talent, or personal achievement".

If I work twice as hard and make $2 when you make $1, the asshole libtards will come along and take 0.50 from me and give it to you. That works only until I see that there is no point in working hard. In the end, you get the Soviet mantra: "We pretend to work and they pretend to pay us."

Why did Spanish name for prison or military garrison trigger the snowflakes?

There is a whole town called Presidio in SW Texas: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Presidio,_Texas. Nice place, 95+ percent Hispanic, and no one there gets his or her panties in a knot because Spaniards named the place Presidio del Norte in 17th century. Shows again that it is our WHITE! ENLIGHTENED! LIBERALS! who are the main driver of this idiocy. Minorities whom they protect don't really want being protected and schooled.
