its even worse. When I submit the paper to a research journal, I have to perform research (expensive), then write a paper, when they get it, they send it for review to people like me who do it for FREE, most of editors are scientists like me as well who don't get paid - -they receive reimbursements for some things and that is all. So the cost of production is minimal, and scientific publishing has turned into a racket. Open access is the same, authors get hosed even more.

That's how I interpreted it. There's a room of serious guys out to crush all dissent, but they can't help it when the meme hits a nerve.
