You'll never get a damn thing accomplished Voting. You've got to join the party, and implore everyone else to. Become a Precinct Committee Chair, and reach out to all of your neighbors. Make local Party Politics(The politics of the Republican and Democrat Party), not the politics of the Elections and their candidates. That's not an election, that's a "Selection" you get to chose from and squabble over the scraps, after the election at the party level has taken place and the candidates are confirmed. Or the local issues like school boards, and fascist commie creeps in local politics. Get your community active in the local Party affairs', and follow it like it's the hottest Sports season ever recorded. Know all of the fuckers, who's who and what's what, like you know Kobe Bryant's career plays and teams he's been on.

Paul Tsongas and Ross Perot both said in their 1992 Presidential runs, they start at the School Board level and work their way up into statewide and national politics. I heard Tsongas in an interview back then say that such local politics can be the nastiest, meanest politics of all.
I see more and more families in my area sending their kids to private and charter schools.
The local law enforcement also are Public Employee Union Sisters and Brothers.

Yes. But now look at the intimidation going on in Solano county. We have become a bully-ocracy - same as what happened election night with Trump supports "removed" from the review process. Houses are getting vandalized and on the community boards, the stories are appalling. It is Portland on a smaller scale - literally. Toe the line or ... else. Anyone who puts up a "let them play" sign or "re-open now" sign is targeted.
This board is pathetic. When I asked for help - someone out here could have said "where do I need to go!" Until we get the bodies on the ground like antifa we will go nowhere. Forget what the press says - we know that all violence to the MSM is only from "the right". "Left" attacks are just fine - so we are already at war whether you want to recognize that or not. When I have to drive down to defend my wife and her friends from bullies in ALAMO - a supposedly high end "fortress" area - we are lost.
As well, we need to do it right: calmly, rationally, judiciously, and fairly. We held our own, but it would have been nice to have more numbers - especially when agitators come around provoking people who don't know what is going on and why they are being bullied.

The only reason this is even news now is that there is probably some parent at abc7 that is pissed at schools not being open. This is not generally getting covered.
The CTA needs to be broken.
And "open schools now" isn't even a true political division. It is one topic that can actually unite a disparate group of voters. I would say majority that want schools and sports open are conservative, but there is a substantial and very large group of traditional liberals who are livid at the overt power of the CTA and the lack of education that is happening. Look at SF having to sue its own school board. Chicago having to force teachers to go back and do their jobs. And still the admin leaders in the districts here make close to 400k - and get raises when the teachers win at the negotiating table as well. There is no true accountability.
To those pointing out that we need to serve on election boards - we also need to be on all school boards, PTA, community business zones, etc... School boards CAN be powerful if they are not simply the mouthpiece of the CTA.
I know many strong conservatives/libertarians/classical liberals, both religious and not, simply retracting into a shell and going it alone, attempting to ignore what is going on around them. That will not work anymore.

This is the biggest problem. Unions once served a purpose, but that is now a century past almost. They're literally mafia at this point. They hold the public hostage with little to no identifiable end game. Public sector unions have needed to be eliminated for decades at this point. It's a system where you negotiate against yourself as a taxpayer and in the case of teachers they can just refuse to work for the dumbest things. Covid being one and they'll ask for a "hazard" pay raise now because of Covid.
It's kind of sad. If I know I'm a good or better teacher, I want to make more than someone with the same credentials if they're a lesser teacher in the actual classroom. Unions screw the public and in the process damage what would be good teachers potentially, and that trickles down to kids. It's also why we end up with bad cops as well. I despise unions.

Yes. The new builds are like high end JC - Dougherty Valley for one rivals many 4 year colleges in terms of aesthetics.
And, don't get started on tax dollars. As of 3-4 years ago, no local taxes go to the schools. Unlike almost every other state, CA receives local taxes back to Sacramento centrally and they dole out based on need. So, that is why SR does zero funding for athletics - it is all parent donation. Versus Oakland, where they get far more dollars per pupil, and sports are funded as part of the general ed fund for that district. Long term, it is not sustainable. The traditional "fortress" areas are slowly declining in school quality because the funding is so disparate and there is NOTHING you can really do locally to improve the schools since you cannot earmark funding,
But, when you talk about how funding changed a few years back, no one believes it. They think the high RE taxes are for their own local schools. They are not.
Essentially, school funding is now deeply entrenched into the "take from the wealthy, give to the poor" mentality. The real goal is to make good school districts just as shitty as the bad ones. Covid has probably saved the RE values in the fortress areas. Not sure that will still be the case once Covid is over and everyone realizes their schools suck. I have seen the quality decline rapidly over the last 5 years.
Sure - good districts attract good/smart families that value education. There is merit and statistical studies that show per pupil spending doesn't correlate to outcome very well.
But it will be a long term regression to the mean - and if you starve a school district long enough there is no more ways to cut. So - you go to oakland and every middle school has great new basketball gyms, track fields, etc..

Making chicken salad out of chicken shit seems to be the repetitive goal requiring ever more futile alchemy expenditures for the union classes. it has simply become an excuse to turn tax dollars into funding for political infiltration, sedition and, of all things, anti-education.
Looking at the titles for seminars at teacher's conferences they have quite a recipe for garbled and inane, meaningless dialectic, when they are really just looking for excuses for tax payer funded hotel vacations to snort, drink, and fuck.

It turned vitriolic when parents started a recall petition agains the school board. The reasons for recalling the school board is for more than just the lack of in person teaching.
Many districts around the state are open in hybrid mode - including top rated districts like granite bay, Marin, etc.. From mid-Oct to January it was possible to open in hybrid and be in a tier that would keep the schools open. The school board and superintendent did not do that.

Anyway, we starting petitioning in parking lots, etc... and today ran into an opposition pro-union group that moved right next to our location. They had a provocateur there filming with his camera and getting up and into peoples faces approaching the signing table. They had acres where they could have setup - but no: the purpose was to deliberately prevent people from signing the petition. They were filming those who were signing - just a couple of feet away.
There were others who were fine - they stayed 10 or so feet away - and they were hading out pro-union papers, etc... The problem was this other guy - my wife called me down and I ended up placing myself in front of him whenever he was shooting video, and I would make statements why the district would not open, etc... He had a dog with him that would growl/bark, etc...
In any case, someone who signed got into an altercation with this gentleman who was following the signer around back to his truck. Then one of the other "counter protesters/agitators" got in the way and fell down. I don't know if she was pushed or not. But of course police got involved and the officer agreed the person filming was trying to create a hostile and volatile situation but nothing could be done. Which I figured since it is a public place - and there are no guarantees on people being "civil".
Anyway - what are some options the group has to gather signatures since it is clear a counter group will show up? The "opposition" even said that I was hostile simply for asking them why other districts are open, why is there no science curriculum, etc.... It was so Orwellian. If I was opposing a group - I wouldn't just go down and "counter protest" and intimidate - I just don't think that is courteous. The person filming wouldn't give his name, who he worked for, etc.. which is within his right. He said he would "splice the video" and post it to make me look bad, and I am sure that there is likely nothing I can do.
But - how do we get help? We need numbers to at least protect our people. I guess facebook posts, etc..
I am just frustrated because there is no communal civility. What is happening in Portland is coming to the suburbs and small towns.
This idea is that you should shut down anyone who disagrees with you. It is sad. This isn't even a "political" group - there are a number of liberals and conservatives that see in person teaching as best for their children (district admitted that remote learning is leading to far higher failure rates across all class subjects).
