Think of the worst possible people being in a protected group that cannot be infiltrated except by assuming the identify of one of them. We've had this technology for decades, but people properly hold back. Is the government more evil than the worst possible group imaginable? What causes more harm?

I'll implement it, but I need more information to release it. I'm not a sociopath.

With complete privacy, there's room for terrible abuse. I don't know what the balance is. Haha, the question is - are people fundamentally good, or evil? Currently, I don't think they are fundamentally good.

I've got zero problem with porn. Is it unrealistic, yes. When you can pop a pill and shoot for an hour, you can edit out the real parts of sex. It's like anything else you'd view though from movies to your local news affiliate. Go in with the mindset that it's fake, including even much of the women.

Pictures are not too bad, but videos take much more space than pictures and use up download bandwidth. So far it's OK, but if this site gets popular again, I'd need to figure out some way to support that financially.

There is also the legal hazard of users posting copyrighted material. Again, so far it's OK because I can just take down content if someone proves ownership and complains. But long term, I need some other strategy.

I have ideas for a really distributed forum, but I'd need time to work on that. As a worker bee, it would take more time than I have at the moment.

I mean hosted by lost of people all at once instead of from one centralized server.

So everyone who wants to would have all of the patrick.net text and pictures on their own computer, and we could all share new comments and pictures either directly laptop to laptop, or maybe through relay servers which don't do anything but forward requests.

The two main ways I see of doing that are:

1. You run some little proxy locally which translates http requests into sftp requests to friends' computers which know your public ssh key.
2. Everyone connects via websockets to a relay which does nothing but allow direct communication between all our browsers.

There are problems with either approach, but they would give great resistance to censorship, and the first method would also let you surf everything and make comments while you're offline, to be synched up later.
