I always thought it was stupid to have an orange tipped gun to indicate it's a "toy". Like how hard is it for a criminal to paint the tip orange?

I'm annoyed by these stupid measures that are taken but I rarely voice them, because I don't know how dumb the rest of the population is. I'll voice ONE now, not that I would ever do what I'm about to describe, and I'm only voicing it here because I don't believe there's any terrorists on this site.

You realize how easy it would to create a what the US federal government calls a "terrorist incident"? Drive down a residential street with a bunch of molotov cocktails, setting homes on fire at 3:00 am. You'd overwhelm the fire department in less than 20 minutes, and burn down 50 blocks and kill hundreds if not thousands. This is why I don't believe much in "terrorists" - if you just want to kill people, it's tremendously easy to do, provided you don't mind dying to do it.

You could get a pilots license, rent a Cesna, and do the same thing. You're doomed once you land, most likely.

If a group of people want to kill a bunch of people, it's TREMENDOUSLY easy to do. Gun? That's just ignorant.

I'm fully confident I'm not the smartest person, and I'm entirely confident that there is some sociopathic asshole terrorist that is far more intelligent and creative than I am. The government intimidates people convincing them that "terrorists" are after them - they aren't, they are trying to gain notoriety, they aren't trying to actually kill people, that's just the non-combatant victims. "Terrorists" often seem to MINIMIZE non-combatant victims, but make it a notable atrocity to attract attention to whatever their cause is.

Any fool with about $100,000 could burn down an entire city suburb if they wanted to do it. That's the REAL world we live in.

I've always had a slightly different take on this than what I see people mention with regard to the militia part.

It seems to me, that the militia part is in there as the reason, and then the right follows. In other words, how can you form a militia, if the people don't have the arms to form the militia.
So the sequence isn't 1) form militia, 2) get arms for the militia.

It is 1) private citizens keep and bear arms
2) if needed, form well regulated militia to protect security of free state

If this is the case (which seems pretty clear to me), then the intent of the amendment is specifically to put "weapons of war" into the hands of the people, so they can assemble to form a militia when needed to protect the security of the free state.

And yes, that means that hand grenades, rocket launchers, automatic machine guns, tanks, artillery, cannons, and the like are within the purview of being secured by the citizens.

If it is too dangerous for a citizen to own without proper training/vetting, then that should be a liability issue on the manufacturer/dealer. If you sell a hand grenade to a 12 year old and they blow someone up, then yes, you are liable. Similarly, if you sell a hand grenade to a nutjob and they blow someone up.. yes you are liable. There can then be an insurance industry around the liability of arms. However, we shouldn't legislate the requirement for this insurance.. it should just become a natural consequence of trade and use in weapons.
