We're about to get legal guardianship of my nephew. He has a massive asthma/allergy issues. Daily treatments and pills. SIL just has state insurance, so I don't believe he's getting the best treatment from even big hospitals. Knock on wood, my own kids 10 and 8 have been sick maybe 2-3 times a piece.

We go to a more homeopathic pediatrician, so once we get him on our insurance we're hoping to try something different. SIL is too busy getting high and drunk and getting in fights and DUI's. So pretty sure her health knowledge or wanting to get a 2nd opinion is not a priority. Bitch.

Is it OTC? Pain in the ass to get medicine without being forced to visit a doctor. My son just got into poison ivy and had to visit a dr to get something more than Benadryl, which wasn't helping. The cream we got was completely benign, but helped almost hours after application. It's a fucking racket.

That’s a good question, I don’t know but homeopathy is very interesting, the doctor asks you a bunch of questions and asks you to talk about yourself, past and present and then chooses a remedy from something like 200 different options based on your answers and their knowledge of the different remedies. In other words there is no one size fits all remedy for asthma is my understanding. The other interesting thing is the more dilute a remedy is, can actually make it more potent. And they use “like” to treat like.

I read a book awhile ago and it said a homeopath used diluted rabbit gonads to quell a rabbit plague/infestation in Europe so apparently there are many uses for this practice if you know what you are doing.

I'm skeptical that the questions are useful, and are designed to make it feel that whatever advice is given is "expert". If the cure works, well, it works - but people puff themselves up to seem like experts all the time.

The definition of this practice changes with the practitioner. I'm well aware of James Randi's presentations of it, but he's misrepresenting it in that he's buying sleeping pills from Rite Aid but that's not how EVERYBODY simply defines it - that is producing a toxin that duplicates symptoms, and then reducing the toxin to nothing over time.

Parent's have absolute trust in "science".

Although even though - I believe both parents are in the medical profession - they don't really understand what "science" is.

At it's most basic science is testing cause and effect. Do X get Y. Do A,B,C,D and get Y and Z. The build a model to explain that. Biology is super complicated, and it's got lots of theories, but not an overall model. It's not like physics. I question if biology is really even a science at all, or if medicine is a science of any sort. We need very powerful computers to make them into sciences in my opinion.

Yes, it's a science, an extension of applied chemistry for biological systems.

The problem is that many practitioners of the so-called allied health care professions are morons who basically squeaked by organic chemistry & biochemistry w/o understanding anything of significance.

Think about it, the primary cause of Covid's major symptoms are environmental ... lack of Vitamin D to maintain the immune system's homeostasis. Did that take a nuclear genius, ala Enrico Fermi, to figure out?

And then, why the case for HCQ? It's called membrane transport (my undergrad applied chem thesis work) which in this case for Covid, is a zinc ionsphore that's needed to keep a higher concentration of Zinc, within the cell membrane than in the blood stream or interstitial tissue to invoke its antiviral properties. The same could be said for Quercetin which also has immune-modulatory effects to keeping the cytokine reactions at stasis.

And yes, more and more computational tools are being added to this field over time. When I was a kid, molecular modeling was a joke. Today, it's rather sophisticated and optimization work can occur in different solvent and temperature profiles than in prior times.

There was no dream team for Covid, only bureaucratic hacks and lying corporate robber barons.

The basis of any science is a model, anything else is just a group of hypotheses and postulates. What new predictions can one made in biology? The only one I'm aware of, and I admit I'm a layman, is evolutionary change given a different environment.

It's a baby "science" at this point. I put it at the level of alchemy versus physics. In physics, we can fold a protein now, but that took a damned long time. The first attempt was done by IBM, and the protein wiggled for 6 months, but never folded. We are still learning in physics, but we have a ton of good models which are extremely accurate. That's why you're able to read this. Any idea how fucking small the traces are on your computer chip? We're dealing with electron tunneling now.

That's in the realm of Quantum Mechanics, for chemistry - it's ALL QM, and in biochemistry, it's built upon that. It's a mountain, and climbing the molehill of silicon, that was quite a climb. You're going to need computers.
