Yes there are rules once you convert, you will loose the benefits.

If the "benefits" are based on past crimes, Why do they arbitrarily stop if person changes religion?

According to Indian constitution, minority religionists i.e. muslims, christians and sikhs cannot get "reparation" benefits since these religions have in-built equality according to their scriptures.

They did not think that people converting would still need those benefits.

And second point. These reparations were supposed to end 1-2 generation after independence. i.e they should have stop them by 1990's. But once people get free dole it is difficult to wean them away from it.
