There's really no reason to use blanks today even, since modern CGI can do that.

With CGI, may need even need the actors.
18   Ceffer   2021 Oct 22, 11:33am

Baldwin's spoiled actor demands for authenticity are now over.

Publicist band aid? Baldwin is probably cowering and slobbering in self pity: "Boy, this could really hurt me! How am I going to get out of this shit?"

The husband should go medieval on that cocksucker's ass.

He got 2 guys with one shot?
I have to read the story.

He should give shooting lessons to the bruhs in the hood. Save them a lot of ammo.

For a normal person, pretty messed up....For a narcissistic, self entitled sociopath, probably doesn't even register.

I have fired blank pistol cartridges. The cartridges look like regular bullets and go in a regular gun but the bullet has a piece of thin cardboard at the tip instead of a slug. No way anyone would be killed by this, just deafened. One time, when I was at a base wide Wild West party in Oklahoma, we all had real .45 revolvers using the bullet casing with just the primer caps in. We did our shootouts and fast draw duels with these. Very loud and real looking, but nothing real came out the barrel.
No offense, but this sounds like a Darwin award waiting to happen. This breaks every single one of the 4 rules of firearm safety.
I know of a story in which someone was killed by a friend playing a similar game. With a caveat: the caliber was 22lr, and the boys would break off the bullet from the cartridge prior to loading it into the chamber. So, unlike your setup, the powder was also there in the cartridge. Next thing they knew - a nice round hole in the forehead of one, and the other one being hysterical upon realizing what he has done. Investigation has shown that there was a bullet lodged in the barrel. A user from night before was too lazy to remove it when it got stuck and didn't come out of the business end.
"Primer only" shouldn't be underestimated either. Aguila makes a "Super Colibri" 22LR round which operates on primer only, no powder. Super quiet in long arm, reasonably quiet in short arm, and ballistics are on par with a pellet from a stout break-barrel air rifle.
There is a fifth rule which I try to teach my kid best as I can: if there's anyone in your group who doesn't follow the other rules, and the situation is not in your control, leave immediately. Do not be there.

“Debris” flying out of a gun that shot a blank is mostly used powder and gas. Still, it’s enough to pop a balloon at 15 feet away. I’ve seen that done with a quick draw artist shooting blanks and popping the balloons. I think they have the balloons to pop because he moves so fast you wouldn’t believe he actually shot all of them if you didn’t see them explode!
Still: anyone with an engineering background should understand that GAS itself can do deadly damage when placed under explosive pressure. When you put a gun to your own head and shoot a blank, the exploded gas has nowhere to go but into your head, so that’s where it goes!

Anyone see No Country For Old Men? The psychopath with the tank of compressed gas who was killing people by placing a nozzle against their heads and then releasing a spurt of gas?

Of course it does. Guess what: the fucking fucks have no idea of these rules and no common sense to come up with them on their own.

And with blanks.

There must be more to this story.

I read somewhere that prop guns have some type of cotton (?) thing on top of cardboard so it would look more realistic if it is fired. May be that is what was deadly.
30   Automan Empire   2021 Oct 22, 1:25pm

What the FUCK was he doing with the "prop gun" that he aimed then fired it in the direction of 2 off camera talent?

SO many failures led to this, from the propmaster derelicting his duties to the dipshit Baldwin playing with even a prop gun like that.
31   Eric Holder   2021 Oct 22, 1:29pm

Gun safety needs to be fucking taught in the fucking school.

That's actually a gas-operated bolt gun. It's a steel bolt that shoots out a short distance due to the gas pressure. Designed to kill cattle.

Yeah, great rule. There must have been some collective fear of speaking up against Alec Baldwin, for him to be acting such a fool with a gun and nobody checking that shit. Taking away a weapon is a basic martial arts skill. I've fantasized about proceeding to push it into the game player's throat, roughly enough to cause tissue damage, to punctuate the message sufficiently.

Radio news just reported the following:

There were numerous complaints about working conditions on the set.

The union crew had left the set 6 hours before the shooting, possibly over the above.

The "prop gun" had "misfired" at least twice before the shooting.

This story falls in line with the script of the movie they were filming about an 'accidental' murder. Seems fake, not believeable - especially if he doesn't face any charges...

Talk about some weird TDS curse...
"I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody...". Baldwin is about to live it.
50   HeadSet   2021 Oct 22, 6:32pm

I heard a report that the "prop" gun had a real bullet. That would explain how a "blank" could kill.

The Memes for Baldwin are getting real savage (not complaining).

Good meme, gonna share that. I remember reading that scene was supposed to be a long elaborate fight between Indy and the swordsman, but Harrison Ford was very sick that day, really crabby, and not wanting to film at all. They rewrote the script to go like this and his day was wrapped in like 15 minutes. I remember movie audiences roaring with laughter every time. (Saw it more than once in the theater.)
