Let's hit them where it hurts.

I'm calling on Pat-netters to consider taking their vacations out of state. Our economy has overheated and despite this, politicians continue to get creative on taxing us to death. There are all sorts of new fees on auto registration for example. Recently, I got a speeding ticket in an obvious speed trap, and even being in the lowest tier, it still cost me $295. Well, I got the last laugh as I am more than offsetting these outrageous fees to the state by giving my tax money to Hawaii and Nevada instead. Every chance I get, I am buying things from out of state and spending thousands on my leisure trips in Las Vegas or Hawaii.

This makes an impactful statement and I am encouraging everyone I can to "Keep it out of California!" That's my new tagline!

Why would anyone vacation in their own state? By that I mean that I don't consider staying in your own state a vacation. That's a getaway in my book. Also Hawaii is as or more draconian than CA with Covid and taxes. I don't know if I'll ever go to Hawaii after their handling of Covid. Maybe my friends went to the wrong spots, but I've heard more glowing reviews about Belize or Costa Rica compared to Hawaii. Both substantially cheaper. Shorter flight too.

I agree though. Get out of CA and explore some places. Most CA people I know just stay there because they're house/rent poor. I like CA, but I couldn't do the same thing every day. It's beautiful, but would get so monotonous after 2-3 years for me. I hate Nashville with a passion, but had a blast there with friends for a 40th birthday. It's not always about mountains and beaches. Make the fun on your own with friends.

I like vacationing in our Great State of Tejas. Mountains, canyons, forests, ocean, fishing, hunting...we'll go to very South of Texas this New Year.

We have been planning to visit Redwoods for last few years but plandemic put a stop to that.

BTW OP is onto something. We get Visit California commercials here in SE TX for last month or so. Lack of tourism apparently hurts, but what the mini-Adolf Newsom does not understand is that few people like vacationing in masked concentration camps. No masked persons and covid checks in ads for some reason though...

They occasionally are running "take your vacation here" commercials. California is so large that you really can take a vacation here, but every now and then, people need to flex a little power over their government and I can think of no better way than to spend money in places that it is appreciated, not just expected with a "now go fuck yourself" attitude.

Love skiing and boarding in Tahoe but I always lodge on the Nevada side

SF has been getting $0 from me since we moved. Full boycott although I have to do some private business there occasionally. Wife is not as disciplined but if she wants to do anything in SF (outdoors only) then she has to foot the bill for both of us

I agree as well.

And at a smaller level, I don't go to San Francisco anymore.

I dream that one day we will have a https://infogalactic.com/info/Reconquista of California, like Spain was taken back from the Moors.

There are at least two groups working on this:

https://takecaback.org/
https://takebackca.com/

Sadly, they kind of remind me of the People's Front of Judea vs the Judean People's Front.

Me too, only I am boycotting San Diego County, so for my getaways and staycations I go to OC. I really enjoy Dana Point and San Clemente and I will also be spending a lot of time at Big Bear and Mammoth this season, but those are very inexpensive trips.

Wife brought up Disney Land and I said F that kids don't even like that over crowded over priced dump. I will only go to CA for funerals.

After several rejections spoke to a doctor who explained to me that he has to have a license in CA in order to do that. Apparently they can't do this across state lines. Finding a doc in CA will not be easy.

Santa Cruz real estate has gotten incredibly expensive, and not a huge market of available houses lately. Yeah, you get locked in by price and Prop 13.

Pac heights. We moved to wine country. Nice decks, pool, sport courts and lots nature, fresh food and milk from the farms, lots organic, great wine and no hobos. We had to stay in the state somewhat close due to family for the next few years. SF is a total shithole by now, it was a no brainer. I lost all gyms and martial studio to !covid! bureaucrats, few have reopened and indoors is now only for the jabbed. Fuck SF, the whole leftoid cabal needs to be arrested and prosecuted, or run out of town. They are leaning left here too, but staunch nimbys and much tougher on crime. The rest are Trumplers.
17   Ceffer   2021 Dec 2, 7:44pm

I'm so proud of the people at the gym taking off their masks. It's a sure sign that the regular people, not just the small group of committed evaluators of non MSM information, have caught on that Covid and the mandates are bullshit. I thought that would happen a lot sooner, but better late than never. Even fake Omicron doesn't seem to matter to them.

Wow! Pacific Heights to Wine Country! You da man!

Why do people stay in SF? I suppose, a Proposition-13 basis could be a reason. Rent controlled residence could be another (those are both sort of the same thing). Apart from that, why do others stay?

We had a nice old but well kept spacious 3 bedroom which was rent controlled, but we had hobos sleeping on our stoop at least once a week and the wife's old car broken in at least once a week, at least the guy had acquired a transponder on the black market so he was able to simply unlock without damaging it. Neighborhood became filthy, Walgreens was looted regularly and blm bullshit started creeping in. Add the insane covid measures, parking etc.. Easy decision

A few former students of mine have very well-paid, non-portable jobs in SF area.

Why are you proud? Wearing a mask in the gym is not normal and potentially dangerous.

They call that the “Golden Fishhook.”
Both I and my wife have those kinds of jobs in SoCal. The money is great and the weather is good, but the politics and policies are maddening. If we hadn’t already established ourselves so well, we’d still move and take our chances.

That's one thing in SE Texas that just plain sucks. Five months a year living in sauna, and even now it is 80 and humid. Two hrs later it is low 40's and wind at 50 mph.

I will tell you, we are gonna be gone soon. It's hard, because we did like CA, for all it's problems, it was still a place where you could make it. Yes.

My question for a local, who left SF for the Wine Country.... not left the SF Bay Area region. Lots of us like you described "here" in the region, but not in "The City". I was one of those before retirement, too.

Whatever you can get in SF, you can get for a lower price in Oakland. Say what you want about the BART. The reality is, that the (formerly, before work from home) large employment centers in SF are more convenient to folks in near-East Bay with BART lines that fan out from downtown SF in three directions in East Bay, than convenient to most neighborhoods in SF. Only those who live walking distance in near downtown, or along the SF Muni Metro corridor that's in only a fraction of the neighborhoods, are more convenient to downtown SF, than near-East Bay.

If you think Oakland is only just a ghetto, you are sadly misinformed. Yes, there's some rough neighborhoods in that city, but most of it is not. And there's tons of neighborhoods in smaller municipalities around Oakland that are below your outside-the-region-perspective radar.

Whatever great amenities or aesthetics 'Friscans boast about for SF, you can find it less expensive in the East Bay. Parking is easier (and cheaper), too. This is why apart from Prop-13 or Rent Control, I don't get it why more people don't leave.

There's so much Smug Bullsh*t about "The City".

DECEMBER 3, 2021
Why the Right Needs a More ‘Muscular’ and ‘Masculine’ Conservatism
The conservatism demanded by the moment is one that fights the culture war with the aim not of “neutrality” but of outright victory. ...

The overarching issue is that the Fusionism of Conservatism, Inc., as a structural matter and due to the very nature of the liberal order on which it is necessarily dependent, is incapable of resisting the left’s “long march through the institutions,” let alone positing its own substantive vision of a good society and the good life. And it is incapable of doing so because it improperly relies upon the illusion of a values-neutral liberal order — a values-neutral free market, a values-neutral town square and a values-neutral U.S. Constitution — to secure its “private” culture at the same time that the progressive left champs at the bit to remold the nation in its dystopian image and subjugate us “deplorables” into second-class citizens.

History has shown that a values-neutral liberal order amounts to a one-way cultural ratchet. The wokesters are all too happy to fill the ever-larger void left behind by a “naked” public square. Indeed, the wokesters are abetted by Fusionist right-liberals who refuse to inject any sense of overt value or morality into the national fabric as a matter of high-minded principle and who instead prefer the relative governing safety of slashing taxes and regulations and calling it a day. In a nutshell, the left knows precisely which (immoral) values it stands for, and it aggressively seeks to advance and disseminate those values. Against such an unrestrained adversary, Fusionism’s plea for liberal procedural neutrality rings hollow.

The predictable result has been the unprecedented metastasis of the woke ideology through more and more of the nation’s leading institutions, from elementary school classrooms to Fortune 500 boardrooms. Against this terrifying new threat, the Fusionist playbook that reached its zenith during Ronald Reagan’s presidency is largely impotent. It makes no sense whatsoever to spout platitudes about corporate tax cuts and slashing unnecessary red tape when the new threats look more like critical race theory indoctrination in the classroom and forcing Christian bakers to bend the knee and “bake the damn cake” for a same-sex wedding. The issues confronting us have fundamentally changed. Any conservatism worthy of the name in 2021 must, to use a phrase associated with the “very online” right, “know what time it is.”

A conservatism that “knows what time it is” is one that robustly asserts and fights for its values in the public square, and that refuses to cabin itself to appeals to “live and let live” liberal bromides. The conservatism demanded by the moment is one that fights the culture war with the aim not of “neutrality” but of outright victory. In that structural sense, it is “muscular” and “masculine.”
