Ya, you’re not supposed to use your gun to protect yourself in CA.

Huh? Of course you are. We still have the Castle Doctrine even in PRK.

We had this type of robbery happen in my Tri Valley neighborhood: some thugs followed an elderly guy from a shopping mall to his home and releived him of the stuff he bought. When they were walking back to their getaway vehicle he suddenly decided to chase them and try to grab some of the stuff back and they shot him. Surprisingly the fucks were caught in less then a week - turned out to be some 🇳🇪🇳🇪 from Oakland (how original!).

Get out of cities. You can hate FB, but our town does have a group that just chased out a thug in real time that was trying to steal packages yesterday. 3 people legit went driving around trying to find this person, and yes, PD was notified. We don't fuck around out in the country. Nice mix of white collar and blue collar workers. And no, this wasn't like an Aurbury case. No one was armed, simply just looking to identify and figure out why they were slowly rolling around town and moving any time someone/thing game near the dudes car.

I've lived years in Chicago and yuppie suburban areas like Geneva, IL. It's only going to get worse and Chicago's homeless situation is mild compared to CA. With low bail, catch and release and defund police, the situation getting worse is only at stage 3 of 10 IMHO. As a white person I won't be entering Chicago for entertainment or fun for some time.

Wow, that’s so fucked up.

I’m going to have a rottweiler someday or maybe just a nice mutt who is protective.

Of course I have a gun around but you don’t usually carry them around in the house.

What's the problem
with keeping a small piece (LCP, Seecamp, Rohrbaugh, etc.) in your pocket at home? I always have one when I'm camping (your campsite is legally your residence so you can carry there) - I hardly notice it in my pocket.

I once visited a gated community in the Hayward Hills - the guard's booth had a Benelli SA rifle prominently displayed on the wall inside. =))

My uncle's place in Scottsdale (Desert Mountain) AZ is like Fort Knox. Two guarded gates, guns included and one remote gate, so 3 total. Don't want to dox myself since it's a paternal relative and someone could get my last name, but he lives next to people everyone here has heard of. With recent inflation, he's got a $12-15M home there. Did real estate for 14 years or so and have been in at least 1k homes/buildings. Nicest home I've been in.

Wife was pregnant last time I visited him. My mom and I drank all his beer and we had a DD in my wife. Think we saw a javelina driving back to the hotel, but I was MC Hammered. lol. Almost hit it in the rental car. Jesus does time fly... 10 years ago.

Stockton, California is a rough place. It always has been.

In recent years I visited inlaws who are safely esconced in a gated community in Stockton, California: the Stockton Country Club. We had to check in at the guardshack before we could drive in. The guard phoned our relative to verify we were expected.

The guard was a friendly-but-all-business young lady. Her uniform had a high collar, but the collar did not completely cover the gang tattoo on her neck.

That's about the long and short of it. When a crime wave stays confined to the lower classes, the rich can safely ignore it. They don't live in those areas, they have gates in front of their houses, and they have alarm systems and other layers of protection meant to keep that chaos from their doorstep.

But when all that crime starts to move up the economic ladder? That's a very bad sign; it means that the crime is getting qualitatively worse, insofar as criminals are now willing to take much bigger risks with bigger targets.

Perhaps most importantly: If they're getting that bold with rich people, how do you think they're going to treat regular people? Not good.

It wouldn't be untoward for anyone to consider packing up and bolting out of Los Angeles if possible!
13   Ceffer   2021 Dec 24, 11:43am

My friend in Santa Cruz (ex military, gun expert and teacher to military) is going to take me to a firing range to review some of his guns and give me lessons, and I am going to buy one of them. He likes the 9mm Baretta. He knows the guns' limitations and the situations in which to use them, how far from target etc. However, I will also get something non-lethal, like a mace powder gun or taser type thing.

The problem with non-lethal stuff is the criminal and gang buddies live to come back again later. I was thinking of immobilizing and giving them an ice pick lobotomy (takes just a minute). They live, but their memory, motivation and mental capacity is impaired forever to the extent I don't have to worry about them returning. Nobody would even check them out for it, they would just look like they got hit in the face with black eyes for a while.

Non lethal stuff:
• your word against his in criminal and civil court, especially bad in pro-crime California

Lethal stuff:
• just your testimony

California doesn't make this so easy. For example, you won't be able to get a concealed-carry license, which would alleviate a bunch of annoying restrictions. Remember to stay clear of the "school zones" when open carrying in a locked box with the ammunition carried separately! You can't mail-order ammunition in Sunnyvale (maybe all of CA?) because of laws requiring tracking purchases.

With respect to your campsite... what do you do when you go day-hiking from your campsite? Do you bring a government-accpetable safe to your "home" and lock your gun when you head off for the trail? How do you bring the piece in the 50 foot walk from the access road to your campsite?

1. Don't need no stinking permit in CA to carry at home or any other temporary residence, including campsites.
2. Don't need no stinking "approved safe" in CA to transport a handgun in a vehicle or on foot: all you need is a locked container, which includes a pistol rug or any soft bag with a small padlock securing a zipper fastener. Loaded magazines can be transported inside that same container, just not insereted in the gun.
3. It's legal to carry a concealed loaded handgun in CA while engaged in hunting or fishing.

I mentioned how you propose to get from your car to the campsite if you can't directly drive into your site.

Ok, I went a bit overboard on that one. However, if you're transporting in your car you need the firearm and ammunition in separate compartments with the firearm not accessible by occupants inside the car. Plus, without your car, you can't simply walk through the school zone without the requirements you mention. Many of the requirements are at least partially eased with a concealed-carry permit, which is (as I mentioned) very difficult to get in California.

That's good to know! Thanks. I was mostly thinking of Yosemite (a national park); hadn't thought about state and county parks.

A nice, short, in-home Black Aces bullpup can handle most of this. Just call 'the Wolf' - clean up is a cinch!

The supposed requirement to have weapon in a separate container from the ammunition and not accessible by occupants is false. All the law is requiring is a locked container of some sorts and magazine not inserted into the gun. That's all. You can have a pistol and a loaded mag in a fanny pack locked with a tiny "TSA lock" and you will be completely legal.

It's a 2006 edition but there were no changes in this particular area of CA gun laws since then.

My friends still in LA tell me its out of control and you can never let your guard down. My wife is down there right now. She told me a lot of the stores and restaurants that we use to enjoy are gone and are closed some replaced with Mexican stores/resteraunts after covid closures.
25   Goran_K   2022 Apr 13, 7:12am

I carry a Glock 19 with one in the chamber pretty much 24/7 except when I am shitting, showering, or fucking. Even in bed, it's literally at arms reach ready to rock.

I suggest my Cali friends look at how to get a concealed carry license, train, and learn how to draw and get off controlled pairs (practice at your local range). Most "dindus" won't charge into fire, and will literally scatter off like roaches, pulling up their pants the entire way.

If you can't get one in your county because it's full communist (like LA County, or SF), carry pepper gel/spray. If you get them right in the face, they will be incapacitated in seconds, and will be pretty much done for hours where you can either beat them into unconsciousness and dump their body on the side of a random road, or you can zip tie them and call the cops to pick up the trash.

I wanted to carry but couldn't in LA because of bullshit laws, but where I live now I can carry anything but don't feel the need to. Left ends with criminal society, race to the bottom.

99% of the time, I never unholster my gun. I take it out to sometimes to change ammo, and clean, but usually stays holstered. But you never want to be in the situation where you need it, and you don't have it (the 1% of the time). There have only been 2 situations in my life where I "could" have drawn, but just the mere threat of me drawing totally deescalated the situation to where the other person just left.

I think it has to be habit, at least it is for me. I have an EDC list that I usually go with everywhere; Glock 19 or Glock 26 with 2 magazines, Spyderco folder 4'', Omega Speedmaster, Wallet (with cash, 2 credit cards, ID), car keys, and wedding ring.

I don't even think about any of the above, when I go out, I take it and it's on me.

It's only a misdemeanor to carry a gun registered to you w/o a permit. And if you have to use it getting slapped with a misdemeanor charge is suddenly waaaay low on your list of scary things. If you feel you need to carry - carry.

In our current society… I never understood home robbery. We have literally nothing of value in our home and we are upper middle class. We keep zero cash… only use credit and have it automatically paid each month. We have apple products that are all password protected and basically bricked and useless to any thief. Big screen TVs are worth peanuts and hard to steal. My wife wears costume jeweler. Her engagement ring is probably the only thing I’d miss if stolen. If you keep hard valuables like gold or jewelry in your house you are usually evading taxes. If you have huge amounts of cash your mattress you are probably a drug dealer.

Yep, in my multimillion shack there is literally less than 1K worth of easily re-sellable goods. Apart from the gun safe, that is. But that thing is half-ton and bolted the fuck down, i.e. smash-and-grab won't fly and anything more elaborate won't be allowed enough time.
