Yes, the scientists advising the government of South Africa - where Omicron is now the dominant strain - say tracing and quarantining the contacts of infected people is a waste of time.

This cool-headed advice is exactly the opposite of the panic in wealthy European countries (and certain blue states).

Of course - unlike wealthy European countries - South Africa has tens of millions of extremely poor people. It can no longer afford to engage in viral theater to satisfy public health fanatics over a strain that looks more and more like a cold.

The prospect of nationwide food riots will tend to concentrate the mind.

That’s Omicron. To date, one person in the US has died with Omicron — though, as with the flu during the winter months, that number will rise over the coming weeks. It does not specify which country these “foreign nationals” belonged to. Why would this be and how is the media not interested in finding out? The natural speculation is that this mystery country is China, and Botswana is being pressured not to breach anonymity. Botswana has a history of indebtedness to China, so naturally they would not wish to disrupt this relationship by blaming China for yet another outbreak. Presumably, if the origin country were not China, Botswana would disclose the name as it’s in the interest of public health.

If this variant did originate from China (which seems like Occam’s razor when you weigh the alternatives), this would imply these “diplomats” were intentionally used as vessels for the release of the new variant, strategically pinning Botswana as the country of origin.

If they did release it on purpose, it seems nice of them actually, since pretty much no one dies of Omicron and it then confers long-term immunity to other variants as well as itself - completely unlike the vaxx, which is anti-alpha only, and only for a short time.

The question is no longer whether Omicron is a cold. It’s whether it’s as dangerous as a cold. (And, again, this has nothing to do with Covid vaccines; most South Africans are not vaccinated, and the pattern there was the same.)

The only sane political move at this point is to drop ALL mandates - vaccine and otherwise - and ALL asymptomatic or quarantine testing (dropping all non-hospital testing would be even better) - and declare victory and go home. Even if the country weren’t burned out on scare stories and sick of being lied to, the reality of these figures is already obvious to most people. (Including LeBron James.)

I’m guessing that the CDC will soon recommend the following:

Tell people to cancel all New Years parties

Forbid gatherings of more than 5 vaccinated people, and only if tested within 30 minutes of the gathering

Unvaccinated people should not leave their home except for food

All flights in and out of the country

If you have Omicron, quarantine in isolation for 30 days

Masks are required everywhere including outdoors.

If you are spotted without a mask, law enforcement is authorized to shoot you first, ask questions later. We need to strict about this to save lives.

People should get their food via IV infusion. It is too dangerous to take your mask off to eat.

Double-masking is required indoors including in homes.

Boosters need to be given to everyone immediately, including newborns and unborn fetus should be vaccinated in order to be protected.

You need to sleep with a mask on (double masking preferred).

Keep your mask on in the shower as well.

If you can breathe through your mask, the mask isn’t going to filter out the virus. The best masks are those where you can’t breathe through them.

Any doctor not following the CDC approved treatment protocol will be immediately put in jail. We can’t have anyone getting any of those off-label drugs to treat COVID even if they do result in zero deaths.

Debates with any anti-vax people are prohibited by law. The public must never find out they are being duped.

Anyone spreading any information that doesn’t support the narrative should be suspended from Twitter for life, have their Facebook account deleted, have their YouTube channel demonetized. They should then be arrested and shot, ideally in public view. This is needed to discourage misinformation spreaders that could endanger lives because the existing methods haven’t worked so far.

Internet service providers must monitor all content and block anything that criticizes the CDC.
