We all know why they are flipping out - they used the Policy Board and Opaque Policies to control who got a "Blue Check". They don't wanted the unwashed masses having access for the price of a Netflix subscription. Also, a twitter that gets user revenue direct is not as dependent on ads from Bank of Asmodeus or JP Morgan or Disney.

Also, a twitter that gets user revenue direct is not as dependent on ads from Bank of Asmodeus or JP Morgan or Disney.
This solves problems right away:
1. "Verified" Bots go away, because the cost is too high, or the transaction is traceable.
2. People that want to be "verified" already have enough money to pay. Narcissism in the public square has a small cost now.
3. Twitter becomes more profitable instantly. I think I'll buy the stock once it becomes public again.
