A bottle of reflective clear coat spray stops that right away. That's existed for decades. Not sure any government bureaucracy anywhere on the planet has the manpower to enforce something like this effectively. The morons will get caught and the smart will do what they want.

I'm not a cheapskate and actually think our toll system in Northern IL is pretty nice road wise so I just pay it. But I know people that have been skirting paying tolls for 20-30 years and use it almost daily and get away with it. It's not a difficult task. We don't have them here, but it's no different than people throwing mannequins in the ride share or HOV lane or whatever they call it.

I'd be more worried about facial recognition in the future. Governments already have your license photo. I don't think people understand how good the cameras at intersections are. I went to a airport kiosk or shop and you slide your card and grab what you want and go. No interaction with a human. All done by cameras and no scanning of barcodes or anything. Creepy as fuck.

The new ones. Older ones, not so great. There's a reason they have them at every freeway entrance, even in small towns like where I live. However, just like anything else, they can be beaten. Simply lower your visor, use window tint, wear sunglasses, hat, etc.

Or invest in a grappling hook, and have some fun late at night ;)

The cameras were all removed from Menlo Park because the people objected so much to the exorbitant fines, much of which went to the camera company. It was all pretty sketchy, but the people did overrule their local government at least.

My favorite is the tshirt/sweatshirt with the seat belt printed across, hate seat belts. Nowadays I mostly wear em for the family's sake but those shirts are a great invention for !freedom! lovers.

In my small town the sheriff rules, so frivolous tickets like that don't happen. I often don't wear my seatbelt around town.

We get in minor arguments here and there on Patnet, but this is the dumbest thing you've said. What's the point of NOT wearing a seatbelt? I don't care if it's 500' or 500 miles. Wear the thing that saves you're life 90%+ of the time that takes 1-2 seconds to put on. Honestly surprised. You seem to be homeopathic and healthy, which I agree with. This one surprises me bigly. My SIL almost died from not wearing a seatbelt in an accident that would have been completely mundane otherwise.

I recently attempted to avoid 2 hours of driving to get my registration taken care of. To the point I submitted to a photo verification process on my laptop, felt super creepy. The system said the image wasn't recognized, and this is the DMV. Not saying the hi-def cameras aren't good, just saying you've way over-estimated these systems. I see this all the time with conspiracy defeatists. Those who recognize some truth, but mistakenly think the people running things are all powerful.

I actually do most of the time. But sometimes making a few stops around town for errands, and the house being seconds away, not always. Speaking of that 10%, had a co-worker who's wife was stopped on a backed up freeway exit, and got rear-ended by some lady in an SUV not paying attention. Despite the seatbelt, impact pulled wifes body under the seat somehow, so she ended up in the back seat, leaving her permanently paralyzed from the waste down.

Plenty of countries have much more chaotic traffic systems and no seat belt laws, with fewer or comparable traffic deaths. Risk compensation and homeostasis may play a big role here. Plus it violates basic human civil liberties as long as you don't endanger someone else. Many people engage in high risk sports such as wingsuit flying or simply riding a motorcycle, you want to ban those as well?

Why is it Law Enforcement's job to enforce laws to reduce payouts for private auto insurance?

Why can't adults decide for themselves to patronize or work at an establishment that allows tobacco smoke?

Nobody's premiums went down when seal belt laws were enforced, the public needed to pay for that, but revenue for the insurance companies went up.

It's as simple as that. They externalized costs for enforcement at no cost to themselves. The taxpayers pay for it.

I view any "law" that restricts personal freedom for an activity which doesn't endanger others unconstitutional. It starts with seat belts and ends with covid shots. It's bullshit. Smoking laws are no better. You don't have to frequent or work in an establishment that allows smoking. Period. And I'm a non smoker. Chefs in restaurant kitchens ingest more unhealthy fumes than a bartender in a properly ventilated establishment. Life means taking risks and only you can decide with what level of risk you're comfortable with, and thus act accordingly, but you surely shouldn't force others down to.your level. You're not the only person on this planet. In the end most of these regulations cause more harm than good, look no further than the clot shots.
