Why did the CCCP openly announcing the intent to annex it then? No ifs, no buts, just straigh-up promise of annexation. Holocaust survivors coined the phrase "if somebody says they are going to kill you - believe them". Are you saying that this time the CCCP is just making light-hearted jokes? How do you know? Moldova has been neutral since the day they became independent, never had any "NATO bases" or has been accused of hosting "bioWEAPONSlabs!!!"* and yet it's being threatened with annexation.

*) Although these accusations usually start AFTER the military invasion has started, so I guess it's too early.
