Has anyone else noticed that airplanes are flying shallower departure paths than pre-covid?

I have the misfortune to reside directly under most departure paths for my local mid-size airport. It really wasn't that bad - it's not nearly as bad as in the 70's, when most turbofan engines were lower bypass designs that would shake the walls. Most times, I wouldn't find them that objectionable.

I'd notice that planes would use a steep departure angle to minimize noise, but now it seems like they are using as shallow a departure angle as possible. I swear that some planes are less than 200 feet above the ground as they pass above me - the airport is over 3 miles away.

I suspect that the airlines are doing this so that in case a pilot keels over mid-departure because of clot shot damage, there's enough time for the copilot to recover, since the shallower departure angle means that the airplane is getting much more lift and can possibly "coast" a little with significantly less possibility of a stall.

Probably no one else on PatNet is living in as low-rent housing as I am, but for those possibly in the know, are my suspicions somewhat justified? The FAA already effectively eliminated the arrhythmia standards for pilots' hearts. Is this just another step in the process of trying to keep as many heart-damaged pilots flying so that the airline industry doesn't collapse?

You might not be surrounded by that many people that were forced to take the jab for employment.

Could be true. I don't think any brokers forced their agents to get the jab. Funny enough though, I had a new agent use me this week. She's still wearing a mask.

Yeah, unless they're W-2 employees like a secretary at the office, I don't think it can be forced on independent contractors. I'm out of the game for 5 years now and never developed relationships with brokers that became friends, so I could be talking out my arse on covid with regards to RE. Besides women, I'd bet most men RE brokers are unvaccinated for covid. Unless they're married to a nurse or something similar. Nurses are the worst... even though most have gotten covid 3 times by now. They're not dead. This whole thing has been a load of shit either way.

I have noticed the Jets are a lot quieter these days than they used to be..
While I don't live under the take off or landing path, I am in the approach and departure path depending on where the planes are coming or going. They are probably 3 to 10k' over head by time they fly over. The engines used to be loud enough even at that altitude, that the noise could be heard from inside. Outside you would have really speak up. Even the jets that make chemtrails, I used to remember jets that high, still gave off the roar of a jet way off in the distance.. Just not as loud. .Now they pass overhead in complete silence when they are that high up. The jets that fly over my house at lower are barely noticeable, especially inside. Also when I have taken the kids plane watching outside the airport fence, the low flying planes aren't as deafening when they are just overhead near the runway fence.

They're still loud. I'm a bit west of a 9 approach and some of the business jets are rather loud still at probably 1-2k' AGL. No airlines fly in, but get the occasional 737 that the mechanics work on or testing for other stuff without doxxing myself. Only stayed in hotels by airports and I could not live that life outside of my random adult aviation fetish. Our train tracks are awful. No one has the god damn gumption to make our crossings horn free. I'll fix it though instead of bitching about it.

Best rate of climb is more efficient than best angle (less fuel burned). Cheaper. Yet another tidbit of our incredibly shrinking standard of living.

I see this everywhere, business's using 'Covid' to finally deliver the customer 'service' that they always wanted to. PG$E, as an example, closed the last remaining office that you could actually walk into, pay a bill, and talk to a person. They also replaced the wooden architectural fencing around a sub-station in a residential area with some 18' concentration camp fencing topped with concertina wire.
The result of Home Land Security combined with Global Pandemic Safety is usually a big 'FUCK YOU, THAT'S WHY.........SIR'

Makes sense. I never asked.

I think they vary their flight paths over tri valley. Sometimes they seem to be coming in loud and low for a while, then most of the time they are further away. In Santa Cruz, you mostly hear helicopters and small craft. You can see the big ones high mostly going north south. Once in a while, some military jet might scream by. I can't otherwise discern any particular variations.

Airplanes became so quiet I'm starting to miss the sound. Especially the sound of turboprops.

Will you miss the ear busting sound of Harleys when motorcycles go all electric?

Nobody would miss that.

Sounds like the commercial Jets you do occasionally get, are older loud engines. The Ft Lauderdale airport expanded with in the last 10 years. There was huge legal battle that tried to stop them. I think the quiet Jets were one of the concessions. All of the jets that fly out of here are all newer jets. I mean you can hear them some, but they aren't any louder than the roar of the traffic on i95 that is about a mile from me. And honestly most planes are much quieter than that. It's the rice burner motorcycles on i95 that are the new "let's pause our conversation while this thing passes".
They literally sound like they are ripping through my yard. I can hear them one or two exits south of me, and for one or two exits north.
Especially when there's not much traffic latter at night, and one is ripping 90mph or more.
I just heard one flew over, it's about as loud as a brisk breeze blowing through a window screen of an open window for about 20 seconds.
21   WookieMan   2023 May 26, 12:47pm

Motorcycles are shit. I know too many people injured or dead from them. They're loud, unsafe pieces of shit.

I bought a decibel meter because of one cock sucking neighbor. Running 100+dbl over 100' away. Just idling. I chewed his ass out bigly. He started killing the bike and walking it from the end of the block. Mind you he was doing this shit at 6am during summer weather when we have our windows open. So I'm not some Karen and am pretty reasonable. But bull shit is bull shit. He listened. I may or may not have threatened to kill him if I'm being honest.

My outbursts are legendary. Only 2 speeding tickets and 2 underage drinking tickets. Otherwise clean as can be. No arrests. My one benefit was having a dad as a lawyer. I knew the law more than cops were trained for. The book of my life is basically here, but I might write something and try to publish it. It would be an intriguing story. I have 2 hour stretches of my life I could write 20 pages on.

Fucking kids activities get in the way and insomnia writing is going to be a proof readers nightmare. And this is why I should write something. I can easily get on Oprah's book club as I know a person. Not joking. Even if I ghost write it the shit I'd write would be obvious is the only concern. Think Hunter S Thompson except too much shit about family and friends.

Wookie tangent as usual. Contemplating doing it though. There would be a chapter about this place though that's for sure.

Motorcycles should be required to meet the same pollution and noise standards as cars. They are lighter and smaller than cars, so it should be easy. Light trucks that are used as cars should also have to meet the same standards as well.

Aren’t Harleys noisy less to be aholes than to be heard and safer on the highway?

No. It's ass holiness.

There is a Harley rider that comes down my (busy) street, pulls his clutch, and cracks his throttle. He's trying to get my neighbors car alarm to go off, often successfully.

I haven't died on mopeds fucking around. The volume is 100% illegal on most Harley's. Maybe and that's a big maybe there's a stock Harley out there. Harley themselves put out illegal bikes. No one gives a shit. Unless you get after them they just get louder and louder. So I go after them. It's worked.

People that ride bikes on major non-highways roads can eat shit as I run them over. Quiet and/or loud 2 wheel vehicles. You deserve to die. Not joking.

Lose family members and friends. Motorcycles are the dumbest thing ever. So are riding bicycles on roads with cars. It's not debatable. It's absolute retardation.

Sit at a wedding and watch the phone call with one of your best friends learning his niece died in a motorcycle accident. Father in law almost died from one and my wife was at a conference. Fact is they were selfish. No different than those cliff jumpers or mountain climbers. I don't care if you thought it was fun. What's not fun is going to a funeral for your stupid "hobby."

I'm not saying I'd ever intentionally ride over them BACAH. It happens though because it's dumb. We have a lot of deer here in the fall. I'm not swerving to miss it and kill myself potentially is kind of what I'm getting at. No different than a biker you can barely see. You lower your life expectancy 10 fold by riding 2 wheel vehicles. It's safer to fly a plane drunk.

I do a lot of bike riding, but I keep to back roads and bike trails. I do not ride on main roads because I don't want to get killed and I do not want to be that guy that holds up traffic. For example, we have lots of bike trails in my area and more are being built. One such bike trail is the VIrginia Capital Trail that runs from Jamestown to Richmond, about 50 miles:

This trail parallels VA Route 5, a two-lane road you can see to the right. Despite this excellent trail, I have come upon cyclists while driving on this Rt 5 who are on the highway and not the trail only about 20 feet away. The road is a scenic rural type with no side path so the cyclist rides on the edge white stripe and holds up traffic until the driver behind him is clear to pass. This type of cyclist is usually in a spandex superhero suit and thinks drivers do not mind being held up as they admire him for being on a bike.
