Overweight and obesity are defined as abnormal or excessive fat accumulation that presents a risk to health. In adults, a body mass index (BMI) over 25 is considered overweight, and over 30 is obese.

Not a "medical" problem, but a discipline problem. If it were a medical problem then procedures like thyroid treatment would be the cure. Instead, the "cure" is stomach stapling and other procedures to cut back on the eating. I thought that show "Greatest Loser" was perfect, as they showed to pop culture that the solution to obesity is diet and exercise.

It's "The Biggest Loser" TV show. I love that show. The first couple of seasons were better when they did stuff that would be considered tasteless by some people's standards.

Yes it's a discipline problem.

When I found out that a lot of morbidly obese people can't wipe their butts without a Butt Wiping Stick it changed everything for me. When I look at them now I am calculating if their fat arms can reach alllll the way around to their butts. If not I give them a wide berth.
What the hell do they do if they have to crap when they are out in the world without their stick?

Exercise has health benefits, but diet is sufficient for weight loss. Eating at a calorie deficit means that the body is consuming more energy than it is ingesting, the difference comes from its fat stores.

When Lizzo has children and they grow up they will look at that picture of her in the swimsuit all smiles and say "you were so thin mommy"

You weren't expecting that line now were you? LOL.

Disagree. If you cut back on calories alone, your body will slow down the metabolism in response. That is why when people go off the diet and back to their old habits they gain even more weight.

But severe obesity I do have a problem with. That's a medical problem. They need to find out what is wrong. Perhaps they are missing essential nutrients? Maybe they have some underlying condition? It's got to be something.

OK, psychological problem.

Whatever. When somebody is SEVERELY overweight, there's some issue there. Sure, a person can starve themselves to lose weight, but what's the underlying condition that got them to be so overweight?

I've gotten fat before (kind of there now), but I know how to lose weight - I just stop eating out entirely. This means I don't only avoid getting food from a restaurant, but I don't buy anything that is pre-packaged. I might buy canned vegetables and tomatoes, but that's as far as I go with "prepackaged" foods. I actually suspect that pre-packaged foods are somehow, well, poisoned.

It's trivial to lose weight doing this. Why is it so easy to lose weight doing this? I imagine there's something in pre-packaged foods that isn't in the foods I eat when I eat exclusively at home.

True, but I also think that the older you get, the more difficult it is to lose weight.

Even with minimal exercise, the body will still consume energy. As an extreme case, this guy didn't eat for over a year: https://www.diabetes.co.uk/blog/2018/02/story-angus-barbieri-went-382-days-without-eating/

Those who go off their diets and gain weight do so because they start eating a caloric surplus.

For me, I find it to be the opposite. I had a lot more difficulty controlling my weight when I was young than I do now. I used to bike centuries (100 miles) and I'd STILL be fat. Could have been where I lived as well. Where I live now, if I go biking, I hit mountains pretty quickly.

I had no idea that one could go that long without eating. After reading that I'm guessing that literally tens of millions of Americans could theoretically not eat for a year.

Star Of Body-Positivity Show Dead From Heart Failure At Age 37

Jamie Lopez, star of the body positivity-based television show 'Super Sized Salon', was an advocate of a "beauty at any size' philosophy, more so than a health at any weight ideal. However, social justice proponents often held up her example as justification for the HAES lifestyle. She is now dead, suffering from heart failure at age 37.

She once weighed in at over 800 pounds.

Normal obesity is a killer, leading to numerous diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, cancer, etc. and is nothing to be 'celebrated.' Of course, the above took this to the
extreme and it killed her at a young age.

The key is to avoid high calorie, low nutrition foods and substitute that with the opposite. Dr. Joel Fuhrman is someone you need to check out if you're interested
in improving your health naturally. My wife & I have been following the basics of this eating lifestyle for almost 15 years. It's made a world of difference in our lives. https://www.drfuhrman.com/

Most processed food is junk, made with the right combination of fat, salt and sugar which, over time, becomes highly addictive.

FYI, my personal BMI is 22.6, however, I exercise daily and have an athletic build. Muscle tissue is 'heavier' than fat, so, in my case, the BMI is somewhat misleading.
My wife's BMI is 22.

Agree with headset on this. You can eat what you want with some movement and not gain weight. Calories don't much matter until you're sitting at a desk job all day. However it happens you need to at least be walking 3-4 hours a day in my opinion. Could be taking the dog for a walk. Doing yard work instead of hiring someone. Walk to the mailbox instead of picking it up from the car. If you can walk to do errands do that. At work if you're given breaks just go walk for those 15 minutes or whatever it is. You don't need to be pumping iron or running a marathon. I've seen plenty of fatties complete marathons.

After WWII roughly, we started sitting on our asses more than moving or standing. The other element of moving is you're not eating or snacking. And as far as diet goes if you're going to snack make it something filling. Not processed chips or other crap. We just peeled all our boiled Easter eggs we colored as snacks. Grab something like that or make a batch of boiled eggs every Sunday for the week. Roll up some ham and cheese (no bread) and have that for lunch. Keep bananas around. Then eat whatever you want for dinner besides processed foods or fried food.

Diet doesn't much matter if you're moving. You could eat pizza every night if you wanted. During the day is when people eat the shittiest. Going out for lunch and getting a 1,200 calorie fried chicken sandwich doesn't help. AND then eating a shit dinner. It's not a diet per se but snack healthy and limit yourself to one shit meal a day or less. Eat the food you want one time a day and that's it.

Cutting back or not drinking helps as well, though that's more for beer drinkers and sugary mixed drink drinkers. Again though if you're moving, you're likely not drinking. I think you get the theme.

Oh, and pick up a sport if can. Even if you suck at it or don't know it. Probably popular for you CA guys or at least Southern CA but volleyball is a blast. Sand/beach volleyball specifically. Moving and running in sand is quite the workout and fun if you're competitive. Play basketball. Hell throw darts. Play ping pong. Ponged last night and there's only one fat(ish) friend. We're all pretty lean. Shuffleboard. Frisbee games. There are so many low impact games you can play and you're on your feet moving. And they're fun. Don't think you need to be a gym rat to get thin. That's for toning and looking muscular.

If so, we have found our candidates for that Mars colony. No eating or crapping for a year would solve some logistics issues for the long flight.

ntermittent Fasting 16:8. Eat anything you want during 8am-4pm but stop eating after 4pm and only water/low carb drinks like bodyarmor or coconut water.
Seems harder than it is. You get used to it quickly. Not only do you lose weight but you also detox.

Yeah, stop eating around 6 pm, and drink ice water with lemon as far as detox.

Slightly off the subject, today I went to the Palm Beach mall for something at the Apple Store.

I was amazed at the fat young women here and there.

When I was their age, it was unusual to see a fat girl.

They're doomed; a girl who's fat before 21 isn't going to slim down later, and only a loser would hang around her.

Well, here is some hope. I went to Water Country last week and lots of young women walking around in bikinis that looked like a 21-year-old should look.

Great ideas both. I try not to eat until 1-2 and not after 9PM. 8 hour window. I try to get at least 14-15 hours between the last meal and the first. 16-18 would be better. I've heard great things about lemon water but forget everytime to grab one at the store.

For fucks sake Delta do you have to hire fat stewardeses now? Lady was easily 200+ she bumped into everyone every time she went up and down the aisles. Knew flight was going to suck when I saw DEI on descriptuon of Delta on the plane door. She had the worse possibe body for job her stomach and ass both looked pregnant.

RC2006 says

I don't know how people can be fat in certain occupations. That clearly means you are eating like absolute shit. Flight attendants are on their feet quite a bit depending on how many flights they have that day. Then factor in walking around airports like Denver where you could easily walk over a mile to get out of the place depending on gate assignment. So lack of activity shouldn't be an excuse.

Booger says

Red Lobsters loses $11 million on all you can eat shrimp deal.

That is just a dumb ass marketing strategy. Reality is lower class folks think Red Lobster is a "nice" restaurant. That's the element you're going to get for those types of promotions. Not being classist, weightist or racist, but it's just fact. They're going to get the shrimp and not other higher priced items or drinks, which usually is the goal of that type of shit. That's why most all you can eat buffets generally fail after a while. Plus the food is shit. Surprised RL was that desperate to get revenue and tried that gimmick.

It's like the classic bar doing 0.25¢ wing night and we all know who shows up for that.... and they don't tip, so staff is pissed. Bad business. Make good food and charge an appropriated price so as not to bring the fat fucks out of the jungle who lose you money. It doesn't bother me, but some people get freaked out too when all they see is eyeballs and teeth when they walk into a business. They will leave.

The real job of the stewardess is for safety, that is, assisting the passengers in an emergency. That justifies a flight physical and work standards to qualify a flight attendant to actually be able to help passengers down a slide or out an emergency door.
