I live in an area that is a relatively short drive to "Amish country." I know for a fact that you'd have a very hard time finding any Amish man that didn't at least own a shotgun. What you may be referring to is that they do not look to the Government as the grantor of their freedom, so with that in mind, the 2nd. Amendment probably wouldn't mean much to them. One of the main reasons that they live their separate way of life is because of that very reason ... they want the Government out of their lives, along with not being too much interfered with by the 'English.' English to them is anyone that is not Amish.

If I want to buy unregulated meat from an Amish farmer who is using the same techniques as his great-something grandpappy from the 1700s, and I am aware that this isn't approved by the FDA (which is the selling point for his customers!), WHY IN THE HECK CAN'T I?

Well, I'm glad the state and federal authorities are spending a good chunk of taxpayer money on the salaries of agents who have been tasked with destroying an Amish farmer in the Midwest.
