Some of these veteran charities are the worst. In the Bay Area, they typically take a homeless person, put them in front of a store, and have them beg for money as a homeless vet. They are rarely veterans.
Sadly, I think private foundations will be the only real option. The founders actually care.
Charities are sociopath's playgrounds.
Just wave a funny looking kid in the air with a fancy label, and just watch the money roll in for cigars, coke and hookers, then toss the kid in a wood chipper.

I think we should get a grant for Patrick.net from the Silly Valley Realtors.
At the closing for our house sale the Title company gave us the choice of which charity they donate to for each closing.
Most likely, charities to buy back the souls of Realtors from the devil.
I was shocked about Goodwill paying less than the minimum wage, even to workers with years of experience -- while CEOs of the various regional Goodwills were making multiple six figures + all expenses paid.
