Most every thing they do, every hand waving virtue signal, every NGO with some altruistic name is a cover for laundering our money back to them and financing some form of criminal enterprise. Every tax bundle is split and distribute like a spayed pig to political pockets. So, why do we pay more and more and get less and less with more and more inflation? The Babylonians had regular 7-year debt jubilees, at which time all the debt slaves chained in the basements had to be freed. Perhaps you mean the Roman Empire?

Biblical gossip? The term has been kind of generic for usury based lending intended to hold in thrall. Like said, common sense dictates nobody would ever lend if they thought the money would be forgiven every seven years.
