I always wondered why I get more gout flareups in summer than in winter. Now I know - quercetin is a xanthine oxidase inhibitor which is almost as effective as allopurinol. I take @Rin's quercetin cocktail in the winter to fight off illness, but usually lay off it in summer. Now I have a reason to take it year round.

Thanks @Rin for introducing me to the quercetin cocktail It's the gift that keeps on giving You rule!

I used to have disabling gout attacks, always in my ankles. Still have the soft boot stored away. I stopped eating high purine foods including shell fish, and sadly, stopped drinking beer, although I believe a few Japanese brands make low purine beer. No more gout attacks. But in general, I stopped eating crappy foods, ate more veggies which I enjoy, and got really serious about exercise.

I cut out all junk food and processed meats, as well as certain vegetables. Still drink beer and I like a little bacon. That did it for 15 years.

I'll be damned if I have to give up grass fed beef. Beer is negotiable. I'll see how things go from here.

I haven't had gout since I've been on Chlorothiazide.

I also take Liposomal Artemisinin instead of Quercetin.

So I was having ankle arthritis preventing me from running. It was a prelude to a major gout attack, I know that all too well by now. Know what is was? Smoked salmon. I bought the Costco two pack, admittedly not the best smoked salmon, but I was wolfing it down daily. I looked it up on the internets, and yup, it has a high purine content. I stopped eating it, and a week plus later, all was well. Fuck, I really like smoked salmon, too.

Same with me - it's the meats treated with God knows what that trigger it bad.

I used to just avoid everything that I identified as a trigger, but I think now it's getting severe enough that even unseasoned red meat might be the trigger. That and beer - I'll give up beer as long as I can gorge on the red meat.
