Having lived through a 100+ year flood in IL, this shit happens. Doesn't have to be for a reason. I hate it when weather events that happen from time to time and there's some human excuse for it. Fires I can kind of get, but not rain and wind events. It was sunny two days ago here and we had tropical storm level sustained winds with gust up to 50mph.

Shit happens. Is my point. I'm also in the windiest part of IL. They likely had to shut down the wind turbines so they didn't break. I looked at the satellite imagery. All the rivers are lined with concrete channels, and people have built up to the edge of the tiny greenbelt surrounding the river. This is a recipe for disaster, even in desert conditions.

Back in the day, people didn't build near the ocean or on the banks of rivers. Any buildings were shacks constructed with the knowledge that they would be destroyed in a flood or storm surge.

Hell, the Nile used to flood every year and inundate mass areas in upper Egypt. Nobody died because the people didn't live there.,

Once common sense (aka practical logic and experience) dies, freedom is the next victim.

One of the worst storms I've been in was monsoon season in AZ, August. Was at Alice Cooper'stown in Phoenix (now closed). The fucking sign was torn off the building. We couldn't leave because there was 3' of water out the front door. We drank beer for another 2 hours waiting for the water to recede.

That was a weird trip/conference. Got to experience a dust storm that same trip. That was interesting. Saw it coming and was just like we should probably get inside. A good choice. Also don't bring your mother in law to a conference to help watch the kids. Free food, free booze/wine and she was still a bitch. Didn't pay for a thing. Flight. Nothing. That was a crazy trip.

Add FEMA and its Euro brethern to the picture and people start feeling entitled to live on the beach or on a riverbank and be rescued and made whole every time shit (predictably) hits the fan.

They don't even give the HAARP residents the option of clearing out like they do in announced wars. The delusion of 'act of God' has to be maintained so the residents aren't warned.
