It's probably a future resignation and Desantis is just planning to fill the seat. It would be dumb for Gaetz to resign before approved. He accepted the position is my take and will be resigning from the House in the future once on the job. Was more of a statement is the way I take it and will still fulfill his House duties in the interim.

It's not a guarantee he'll get approved even with a Congressional majority. You don't quit your job until the new one is solidified.

Gaetz has vehemently denied any wrongdoing, and said last year that the Justice Department’s investigation into sex trafficking allegations involving underage girls had ended with no federal charges against him.

Before that, Teddy Roosevelt was actually going after Establishment crooks when he was AG in New York. That's how he got to be Veep.
