This issue crosses party lines.  Call your 2 Senators and 1 Representative and tell them NO to renewing or extending the $8,000 first time home buyer credit.

I just called mine.  If all of the people on this site did this, it would make a real difference.  We need to make our voices heard above the NAR lobbyists and mortgage bankers that are bribing our congressmen.  Right now they are only hearing the money talking.  But we need to let them know that houses are still unaffordable, and government intervention is keeping them unaffordable.  The sooner we get back to a housing market with no government interference, the better we will all be.

Do Not waste your time or resources doing this if you live in California. The two most useless senators ever hatched in my opinion will not be swayed from their agendas (whatever they are by whomever $et$ them) by the people they serve. This fact was proven out during the bailout-TARP fiascos when they received massive and overwhelming public feedback from their constituents AGAINST the bailout and they voted their own way irregardless.. . The Worst of the Worst and lowest of the low down in my opinion: Feinstein and soon to be beaten like a red-headed stepchild at the polls Boxer.

"The sooner we get back to a housing market with no government interference, the better we will all be." No Offense intended to the poster, you are spot-on correct but the reality in America in 2009 is "Keep Dreaming".

Javco, I wouldn't say don't waste your time. Even though the senators will probably look at the big fat check they get from the NAR and vote for the new and improved "cash for shacks" program anyway, their staffers do keep a count of all the calls they get on different issues, and every call represents something like 100 actual voters that feel the same way, so if they get a few hundred calls that translates into tens of thousands of voters in their district that feel strongly about it.

Of course, the problem is that the house owners are way more vocal than we ever will be. I listened to a radio program the other day talking about housing in my local area, and 90% of the people calling in were house owners complaining about appraisers giving them low appraisals... "Can you believe the nerve of this appraiser saying my house was worth $30,000 less than last year?" And after listening to this for 30 minutes I wanted to reach through the radio and throttle those idiots calling in to the show...

You might want to look in the mirror and/or use spell check before posting on a mans personal website and calling him a moran (sic), using horrendous spelling and grammer while doing it, and trying to direct traffic to your own worthless piece of the WWW by spamming anothers hard work. You're a piece of shit. Did I spell that right?

DJ Hives, wow, just wow... I clicked on your site just to see how crazy and deranged you are... I would not recommend it for those of you at work, unless you want to see nudity, what I can only call "violence to women porn" and other stuff that you probably don't want to see.

I think I speak for everyone on this forum when I ask you to kindly leave.

lyoungblood: Good points you made. However, the two dimwit low-brow hustlers down-in-the-ditch with the rats, both of them Richer than Smarter in my state will probably compile and 'enemies list' of callers to submit to their Messiah (D)... Oops My BAD showing.

Well,go ahead, make the calls, phone, fax, e-mail, teletype, telegraph, smoke signal, skywrite etc... one never knows...

This other respondent djh I cannot inderstand your message or the point being made. Let's keep it civil though. I respect your input, I am sure you have something to say here, I just do not understand what it is. For me to go to your site and enter the discourse you must make your point clearly and succinctly. Spell check is included with software for a reason.

I am not always civil or a good speller in the heat of the argument either. I have just found that here on Patrick.net you can learn a lot from interacting with others trying to get through this charade we call government and the f*cking we are all getting Right Now, homeowner, homedebtor or those that just cannot wait to buy and be upside down looking for the Obama Free Cheese handouts.

how true. I think almost every one called during the Bailout and they went with that shit anyway. What makes you think that calling senatards now will make a difference this time? Show your vote in the next election. Dont let the incumbent come back next time.

I read in my morning paper that Rep. David Dreier wants the tax credit to help people who have just been foreclosed on to go out and buy another house they can't possibly afford by extending it to everyone not just first time buyers.
Dreier is supposed to be a republican yet he is encouraging more propping up of people who cannot
possibly afford to buy a home just like the democrats.
Meanwhile the prices in his district remain ridiculously high and 8000 dollars only amounts to a 40 dollar a month reduction in the payment which makes the whole thing virtually worthless.

Where do we call?

12   4X   2009 Oct 21, 10:09am

I can use the letter Obama sent out yesterday to call in CA.

13   Storm   2009 Oct 21, 11:50pm

4X: Very astute of you, I did exactly this. The letter from Obama had the phone numbers for all my representatives, so if you've ever gotten on Obama's mailing list you can just use that.

I was supposed to call about health care but I called about the tax credit instead... LOL

Here's what you get when they DO write back in my state (see below). Still think you make a difference?

Knock yourselves out, Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls. Enjoy your day and the Great Depression 2.0

Dear Mr. :

Thank you for contacting me to express your concerns about Federal Reserve Chairman Ben S. Bernanke. I appreciate the time you took to write and welcome the opportunity to respond.

On August 25, 2009, President Obama announced that he would nominate Chairman Bernanke to a second, four-year term as Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors beginning in 2010. During his tenure at the Federal Reserve, Chairman Bernanke has faced significant challenges while directing our nation's monetary policy during the recent economic crisis. I recognize that you believe some of the Federal Reserve's policies may have contributed to the downturn. Please know that I will keep your opposition to Chairman Bernanke in mind when his nomination comes before the full Senate.

Once again, thank you for writing. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact my Washington, D.C. office at (202) 224-3841. Best regards.

Sincerely yours,

Dianne Feinstein
United States Senator

Javco,

I got a nearly identical canned response when I wrote to Her Majesty Feinstein a year ago when she voted to renew the Patriot Act.

The people are asleep and have been for decades. We are doomed.

Attention, America: STOP RE-ELECTING INCUMBENTS. These people live and die for power, greed and control over your lives. Why do you think you are so unhappy? They control every aspect of you, and you keep falling for it.

Damn! I miss all the good stuff!
FYI, you were grammatically correct, as well as you presented your point of view with correct spelling and in an easily understood format.

I'd call my representatives, but it's alot easier to call the church. (Utah)

Will they learn?

IRS doled out $620 million to ineligible filers: Auditor
Agency paid home-buyer tax credit to taxpayers as young as 4, report says

http://www.marketwatch.com/story/fraud-found-in-home-buyer-tax-credit-claims-2009-10-22

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Even as Congress mulls whether to extend the popular first-time home-buyer tax credit aimed at shoring up the decimated U.S. housing market, government auditors said Thursday that thousands of ineligible taxpayers have received millions of dollars under the program.

Yeah..right, they will extend with SAFEGUARD ...sigh...

cb: I really was over-the-top rude to Feinstein im my writing to her, I mean I REALLY aggressively dumped (with supporting facts) on that stupid (IMH opinion) helicopter Ben, Greedspan the arsonist and the rest of the Goldman Sachs Gangsters her Fuherer MaObama has installed. I also took some very cheap shots ( again well founded and factual) at her sisters-in-the grandma club Ba Ba Boxer and Bela Lugosi Pelosi just to see if I could provoke a personal response... But No, just another sweet as honey smarmy bs form letter from grannykins. I hope she keeps what I said in mind when someday she may finally be in the dock for her 'representation'.

Without incumbent representatives, the lobbyists will be the only incumbents in Washington. That's a horrible idea to begin with. Plus:

How can you expect a bunch of rookies that KNOW they will not be re-elected NO MATTER WHAT (because you never re-elect "incumbents") to have an incentive do to the will of the people? Or to stand up against well-oiled machine of *experienced* lobbyists, even if they happen to have something resembling a backbone?

If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times: It is our ELECTION SYSTEM that makes our representatives so susceptible to corruption. In short., single-winner-districts --> two-party duopoly --> no real competition/alternatives --> corruption.

To me, this is so blatantly obvious that I do not understand why everyone does not agree. Let me try to phrase it in a way that may make sense to more people:

There is no free market for political representation, and it is all due to our election system!
