Patrick.net is one of my favorite sites on the internet, and the site I check out most for housing information and advice. Most of the posters and commenters are knowledgeable in the area of housing and economics. In addition many have a good sense of humor.
However, there some very stupid things written by some. I invite anyone to share some of the dumbest things they have read from posters on this site. They might be worth a few more laughs...

Wow!...keep 'em coming! :-)

Not sure if we should award someone the "dumbest commenter of the year" though...

Looking forward to seeing more of the dumbest things said over the years by various commenters...LOL!

I agree–I would never take out a $600K mortgage on a $100K salary. It may be doable, but I think you’d be awfully house poor.

Exactly. 100k doesn’t go far in California, so people usually move away to the podunks and then come on Patrick.net and lie about owning, how much they make, and their magical wives.

So now I lied about how much I make? Did I make more than 100K or less?

Oh btw--I told my wife you think she's magical. It made her day. She does make a mean chili, so you could be right...

How is a $600k home not affordable at $100k/year salary?

If live at home with your parents, and live frugally, it would take you several years to save enough to qualify at the 28/36 cut off to underwrite your loan. Have you ever tried to apply for a mortgage before (without your mom cosigning)?

Nobody is cosigning for me. People probably have some serious money management issues if they cannot save earning $100k/year. You do not even need to live frugal. That's $5000/month take home pay. How much do you spend may I ask?

For a real good mental game ... try to keep this in mind ... Mr. Fantastic and tatupu70 could be the same person posting under different names. cool huh? Heck, all of you could be the same person, put here just to mess with my mind!! dang it.

Yes, and not just here online but everywhere. Maybe you are the only real person...the rest is just a game designed especially for you.

I've been wondering myself if a particular character known by most (quack) might have as many personalities as Sybil on here. Heck, might as well throw in Tatupu too. Whatever. I can't decide if it's Comedy Central around here or more of a psych ward thing.

Tenouncetrout says

Gold is going to take 400 to 500 drop in a matter of minutes when it goes.

I nominate this statement.

There either one of two ways this goes. Either our economy doesn't rebound, and the world ditches the dollar, and ties a world currency to Gold. Which will be impossible. That would mean only those that bought gold in the last several years will have money and the rest of the world wont. America looses all of it's worldly luster "The world only consumes our Dollar, nothing else"

I don't see this happening ever, not with out all out world wide war. Going to a world Gold standard would put 85% of the worlds population in third world poverty, including the Majority of American citizens. A small percent of the population would be wealthy beyond their wildest dream. This would breed centuries of wars and pandemonium.

World trade production and consumption as we knew it, would be stuff of epic Historical tales about a Civilization more advanced than the Gold world they would realize.

Gold is a Hedge against a perceived notion that the dollar is collapsing. The dollar is actually stronger and has been ever since that idiotic battle call started sounding 3 years ago. The dollar was 1.57 against the Euro at that time, it has hovered 1.27 to 1.33 consistently since then.

The minute there's real perceived growth and people don't feel they are being duped by cooked numbers and pump Monkeys at the federal Plunge protection team. They will ditch Gold and invest it into what ever the new flavor of the Month that realizes us that rebound. Gold has no intrinsic value, lest we become Head hunters and primitive warriors that need a shinny Golden crest on our heads to accent the Lions tooth in our nose.

When gold is at 5000 (which probably won't happen any time soon) then I could agree with your 400-500 drop statement. Until then it is as ridiculous as $5000 gold.

The sexual tension is palpable around here - why don' t ya'll just get a room?

There have been some dumb things - but my reference to poopybear (bear market) was the stuff about zerosexuality... He was seriously wierd, and I'm sure that Northern PA will never be the same if he made it out of his parent's basement.

My favorite thread of all time is the fun we had with the realtor who advertised a house with a large dick for entertaining. Leigh's comment about sitting on her brother's dick made me lmao.

Q: What is the dirtiest thing said on TV in the 50's?
A: Ward, don't you think you were a little hard on the Beaver last night?

“… that would be in the butt, Bob.”

That was in the 70's. Which begs the question - what about the 60's, 90's and 2000's? What are your favs for those decades? My fav for the 90's was in 1999 -

"this one time - in band camp..." - american pie

"It's such a fine line between stupid and clever." - spinal tap... also,
It goes to eleven (I'm paraphrasing).

...so what are yours?

38   Bap33   2011 Jan 5, 1:00pm

pretty much all of American Graffitti runs through my mind all day ... I mentally insert lines from the movie into my day, and sing the sound track at random. I think that is pretty much how I cope and get through each day. lol

These are few that were used by me and my buds a few zillion times in the 80's-early 90s.
"... wax on, wax off..."
"... best way block punch, no be there..."
" ... use the force ..."
" ... that's not a knife, THIS is a knife ..."
"... I got a lotta mo Balboa!... You a paper champion! ..." (Mr. T in Rocky #)
"... Oh My God, Becky! ..." (Baby Got Back)

my favorite right now is "apple pie" .. but, that is an "insider" thing.

Expand on that, it explains why Lefties are so clueless about themselves…they don’t view themselves as extremists but actually “of the center, a.k.a. ‘normal’” in the grand scheme of things. When in fact, they never really were and definitely are not now.

shrekgrinch says

Show me examples…and not the bogus Hawaiian Certificate of Birth he bandied around with portions blacked out. Where’s the affidavits? Who are the witnesses? Did they swear under oath and penalty of perjury? Where is the documentation for that?

WHERE IS YOUR PROOF?

shrekgrinch says

1) Lefties gave up any right to be called an ‘American’ long ago.

shrekgrinch says

No. Because that Demobitch isnt’ an ‘American’. As I keep stating.

shrekgrinch says

translation: ‘compared to what you classifed me as being’. If you real carefully what I write (because I do write quiet literally for this very reason) you’ll see how people just don’t really read what I write and go off on whatever they are thinking in their own heads about me, not what I actually said.

Then I nail them to the wall over that. I get a lot of repeat biz, trust me.

shrekgrinch says

They should outlaw liberal idiots from speaking or voting and limit them to scrubbing toilets and fluffing on porn sets as an occupation. There is absolutely no reason such idiots should participate in society otherwise.

After all, who cares about the rest of the Constitution when the parts we don’t like are open game for pissing all over?

shrekgrinch says

a few months ago I predicted that the Dems will continue to piss people off…and piss off people who tend to have guns…so much so that pretty soon said Dems would start getting shot at.

I’m serious. I predicted that.

shrekgrinch says

Truthfully (I’m not Bap33 but will answer that unsolicited if it means I can piss even more people off than I usually do), I’ve always wondered how Liberals can be such dumb-asses when it comes to their fervent drive to totally piss off millions of gun-owners in this country. I mean, THEY OWN GUNS, people! Liberals usually don’t.

So, do ‘the math’. While your average Winchester hunting rifle won’t stand up to the National Guard on their worst day of the month, it is more than enough to kill unarmed liberals who stupidly & arrogantly think that they are somehow immune from the wrath of an armed people descended from folks that did take up arms against their government before (Parliament and King George).

shrekgrinch says

So, don’t do the math then. Instead, keep whacking the nose of said rabid pit bull with your liberal rag of a newspaper while thinking “He can’t touch me! I have the ‘intellectual’ high ground!” Being in denial of the world as is is sooo conducive to one’s survival, after all.

shrekgrinch says

do ‘the math’.

I'm thinking Ray will have to choose a new identity soon.

Did anyone really believe this guy is a programmer ? I mean seriously, we have a lot of programmers around here. I'm not saying that a conservative or republican programmer is impossible. It's not at all. But this guy ? Please.

45   marcus   2011 Jan 11, 2:56pm

He said he was an engineer, and he referred to finding bugs. That makes him a programmer of some kind, or possibly QA, quality assurance, testing software. Either way, highly unlikely, both jobs require a fair amount of calm thoughtful reasoning. Seems fictional to me, that is the entire character and his posts.

ch_tah says

At most housing was going down slightly by Nov 2006.

The case shiller shows a 25% drop from May 2006 - Nov 2006.

I nominate yours so you can't modify it like you've done in the past. Yeah, 25%, try again!

48   ch_tah   2011 Jan 26, 8:21am

Mr.Fantastic says

I never said 25% of what. It could be nominal, cumulative, etc.
Thanks for playing though. )

I'll nominate this one as well.
C-S didn't drop 25% in that time period no matter what you are talking about. Damn, you are pathetic.

49   ch_tah   2011 Jan 26, 8:29am

Troy already did on the other thread. The numbers were pretty clear. Every C-S graph is perfectly clear. It's your turn to prove YOU right.

50   ch_tah   2011 Jan 26, 8:36am

Done!

Now you prove you are right. Am I supposed to ask you why you are so afraid now? Is that how this stupid game works?

51   Â¥   2011 Jan 26, 8:44am

MF is the most spectacularly trollingishly troll I've seen on the internet. Normally I might say he's got a low signal-to-noise ratio, but in his case it seems he's providing us an actively *negative* signal, something I have never seen before and thus did not think possible.

Going back and removing damning misstatements from an already combative missive is a key example of something I have never seen before on the internet, maybe because being able to edit one's comments is rare, but reddit has comment editing and I've never had to deal with such active dishonesty.

52   ch_tah   2011 Jan 26, 8:49am

Just in case there's any doubt how much of an idiot you are, here's more info from Mish:
http://globaleconomicanalysis.blogspot.com/2009/04/case-shiller-march-2009-analysis.html

If you assume May 2006 was the peak (even though it wasn't according to his chart), the total drop from the 10-city and 20-city indexes was 30% and 29%, respectively, by January 2009. If you are saying there was a 25% drop between May-Nov 2006, that means housing only dropped ~5% in 2007-2009. Yeah, that pretty much ranks on the top of the list of stupid thoughts.

53   ch_tah   2011 Jan 26, 8:57am

Just one last post to put some icing on the cake. There you go, specific cities.

http://themessthatgreenspanmade.blogspot.com/2008/01/more-record-home-price-declines.html

54   ch_tah   2011 Jan 26, 8:58am

Another nomination, this is too easy:
ch_tah says

If you assume May 2006 was the peak (even though it wasn’t according to his chart),

SF Aggregate C-S Jan - Dec 2006:
Jan 214.78

Feb 215.5

Mar 216.04

Apr 217.52

May 218.37 - peak

Jun 218.12

Jul 217.63

Aug 217.22

Sep 216.37

Oct 215.42

Nov 213.84

Dec 212.13

According to Mish's chart - you need to read things in context, genius.

@elliemae
True so true!

Anyway, I set up this post to give myself and others a good laugh and it has done so.
So back with the dumb things...

57   ch_tah   2011 Jan 26, 11:19pm

Mr.Fantastic says

This is too easy. ch_tah doesn’t know how to read charts, or what the term nominal and cumulative mean. I think ch_tah has proven he’s has a lack of education when it comes to analyzing data, and his only use here is to provide comedy for our entertainment.

I'll take it by your complete lack of support for your position that you cannot support your position and your sole purpose here is to annoy. You can't even provide one chart that shows what you are talking about. In the off chance you aren't just insulting or cheerleading, you offer stupid statements with no support whatsoever. Just put up the chart that shows a 25% decline in C-S in any form from May 2006 to Nov 2006. If you can't do this, then I think it is clear that Mr. F has proven he is completely full of crap and doesn't understand nominal, cumulative or any other concept remotely involving math or reading.

58   ch_tah   2011 Jan 27, 12:59am

Mr.Fantastic says

ch_tah, I’ll be honest, I’m trolling you. But you are pretty stupid, everyone realizes it, and that’s why your post everywhere are universally derided. The #1 reason why you’re a dumb faggot is because you simply don’t care to examine the source of information you post, and you excitedly cling to the nuts of anyone who will say “housing is doing great.” Example #1, Ingo Winzer.
You’re basically sucking Ingo Winzer’s dick because he’s saying San Jose is the #1 city with the potential to raise in value in 2011. You failed to address though that in 2006, Ingo Winzer called San Jose “Over priced” and had the following valuation.
Winzer’s 2006 Equilibrium Price for San Jose: $372,100. He claimed SJ was “61% Overpriced”.
In 2011…

Current San Jose Median Sale Price: $400,000
So the current SJ sale price is $27,900 away from the Winzer predicted equilibrium price (which is still almost 10% over priced according to Winzer’s initial valuation), yet Winzer is now saying that prices are going to increase?
See what kind of moron you’re worshiping? He has posted two viewpoints which are at odds. Yet you think he’s some sort of oracle for accuracy and prediction like that other faggot Troy.
This is why both of you are simply stupid and wrong all the time.

That's nice that you post directly to this thread, so there's no need to copy and paste. Just an easy quote to preserve for future reference so that you don't edit it and try to change history later. Thanks for showing your true colors with this one.

I don't like the "ignore" function, but I think you deserve it. Sorry if I don't respond to future posts of yours; it's not just because they are worthless and stupid, it's just because I don't see them.

Mr.Fantastic says

Yet you think he’s some sort of oracle for accuracy and prediction like that other faggot Troy.

LOL.

Here's his numbers again from mid-2006:

San Jose CA $599.2 $372.4 61% overpriced

zillow shows the 95112 zip had a $600,000 valuation in July 2006 and bottomed at $374,000 in May 2009.

That's not prediction, that's fucking magic.

Mr.Fantastic says

You follow me because you know I’ve taught you numerous things by simply posting.

That's my nomination. When have you ever posted anything that could be even remotely considered as constructive?

Mr.Fantastic says

I’m trolling

At least you admit that you are a troll. That's progress...

61   American in Japan   2011 Jan 29, 12:07am
