And 45% pay no income tax...what a remarkable coincidence!

BTW, I'm enjoying the view watching the liberal, progressive, socialist, democrat, freeloader, do-gooder attempt at creating utopia slowly disintegrate under the crushing weight of reality.

What doesn't work: Soft tyranny, income redistrubution, leveling the playing field, equal results for everyone, less freedom, fewer rights, more restrictive laws, higher taxes, less privacy, infringments of personal property rights, violation of the rule of law, ignoring the Constitution, devaluing our currency, class warfare, double standards, reverse discrimination, dependency, irresponsibility...you know, all those negative things that big massive, intrusive, controlling government creates.

Have a good day. HONEST Abe.

This was also the first thing that came to my mind.

Apparently Abe still doesn't know what payroll taxes are.

Ignoring the whole political slant of this post:
If 45% pay no taxes and only 43% think income taxes are about right, what's up with that 2%? Paying none isn't good enough, or do they actually feel like they should pay some.

They want a bigger EITC? The other 43% don't know how to spell it.

Abe--

What is crushing this country is the exact opposite of progressive thought--extreme wealth inequality.

Federal spending is going to be $3T this year, not counting SS.

Wages $8T, interest/rent $1.5T, corporate profits $1.5T.

Let's say the latter two pay at 20%, that leaves $2.4T for labor to pay.

The top 20% take 60% of the wages, for ~$5T and for them to pay 80% of that $2.4T would be a $2T tax bill, a 40% tax rate.

Total government spending this year (not counting SS) is $5.3T, or $45,000 per household. This implies 1 out of 2 households has a very good $90K government job.

We can't afford a $6T government without Eurosocialist-level (50% on everyone) taxation.

I think we're going to continue down the Japan road though, just keep on pretending.

What exactly do opinion polls show, anyway, other than how successful a particular marketing campaign has been? And what do they mean to you?... To me it means you're grasping at whatever little bit of info supports your latest notion because it sounds like something you like.

The interesting thing about polls is WHY people think what they do, not THAT they do.
