The sacred 6% commission has lasted much longer than I thought possible in the internet age.

There are laws on the books in many states which prohibit internet selling of RE. Many of these laws were introduced by state RE associations. Had we not had these laws, Ebay long ago would have had booming listings and sales.

The sacred (...) has lasted much longer than I though possible in the (...) age.

The sacred teacher tenure has lasted much longer than I thought possible in the declining tax revenue age.

Not all states have tenure for teachers.

Not all states have teachers unions.

California is just lucky I guess.

Except, eBay would take ALOT more than 6%. Then another 12% because transactions must happen via Paypal.

Ebay does charge a high fee, but not necessarily on cars. Here is the fee schedule for Ebay Motors:

Paypal's fee would indeed suck, if you had to use it. Those guys need to be regulated like a bank -- they arbitrarily make up their rules and enforce them inconsistently and unfairly. We need some consumer protection in this realm.
