The same biography information was posted on his publisher's web site - there are historical snapshots of that web page. It was changed in 2007 after Obama announced running for US President.

Obot, there was no mistake. Birthplace information came from Obama. Another author represented by the same agent described the process. Authors wrote their own biographies and submitted them to the agent.

On a couple of occasions in my work the proposal had bios in it. A person asked me a bunch of stuff and the information I provided was what they derived my bio from. It is not the other way around, that's just absurd. They didn't write my bio and then show it to me "Is this correct Mr. Clambo?"
So evidently Obama : 1. lied that he was born in Kenya 2. was born in Kenya.
