Mom lion would still be able to hear the pup and the bird's wings even without visual contact. But, like Pat says, impossible to know these days.

The bald eagles that live around here max out at lifting 7 pounds. That African eagle, even with a 7 foot wingspan, weighs at most 15 pounds, so it would struggle with even a 10 lb load. That lion cub looks at least 20 pounds.
