How do they even know we can help them? World wide phenomenon of animals who ask for human help.

I'm sure most of those videos depicting where animals asked for help. Are domesticated or tamed animals that the person interreacting with them, is familiar with that animal. People have hedgehogs as pets, that guy could have had him outside for a stroll.
