Tu Youyou was assigned the task to find a cure for Chloroquine-resistant Malaria and she discovered Artemisinin, a drug that is remarkably effective against Malaria. She shared the the 2015 Nobel Prize for Medicine with William C. Campbell (biologist) and Satoshi Omura (microbiologis) who discovered Ivermectin. Both, Artemisin and Ivermectin are anti-parasitic drugs.
As an aside, Artemisin is also a vitamin and it is available over the counter.
