Just tooting my horn, here. A little history:

Elliemae was laid off in 2005, and with a bit of time on her hands she wrote four books (approx 50 pages in length) while she applied for job, after job, after job. Finally got one, but set up a website to sell the books. I sold several of them - somewhere around a couple hundred. They were mostly .pdf, although I did copy some onto 8x11 paper and sell hardcopies that way.

I sold some on Patnet (and he got a cut, of course). However, I decided to consolidate all of them into one book and actually publish on createspace, which is an Amazon self-publishing site. For the uninformed, if you self-publish you receive a hell of alot more than if you attempt to go thru formal publishing channels. Example: Book sells for $17. If i sell through createspace, I receive $9/book. Amazon $6/book, booksellers on amazon or other booksellers $2/book. I have to self-promote, but that's okay.

I've learned that finding someone to act as an agent is nearly impossible, unless you are an established author. National publishers only promote the books that are from best selling authors (and the authors receive $1/book, although they do have volume on their side). Many people self-publish, and once their books take off due to their hard work the publishers come a'calling.

But I digress - my book is a real book, available on amazon, createspace, and kindle. My new website is linked and I shall be blogging about some of the shit I've seen, the fraud and abuse I've encountered. Because I'm "hiding" under the name "l.e. green," I feel that I can be candid without jeopardizing my day job. hopefully - but feel free, all of you, to buy my book and make my dreams of educating people and making $ while I'm at it come true.

If you want to write a book and would like to benefit from my experience, feel free to write a post and I'll respond - I've learned a shitload about the process. But mostly please buy my book.

I'll check out your book today. Congratulations on getting your book (self) published. The important thing is that it's out. And I hope you sell a shitload!

How's your Romance novel, "50 shades of dead" going?

You're so sweet to ask. It stars a grumpy dude who makes snotty off-topic comments on a real estate forum. No one wants to read it because it's often offensive and rarely topical.

This the new Liberal Campaign is it?
Liberal engineered Censorship at it's finest.
It was tongue and cheek Elie, don't go getting all full of your self now that you're a hot shot published author with a website.
My Book "I WAS a teen age Liberal" is doing well.

elliemae,

Attempts at trolling aren't the problem. It's responding that
seems to be the motivator. Ignore & move on.

Good luck with the book. Mucho Deniro

IF That were even possible, then our Country wouldn't be divided on every political and social issue at hand. Get real will you.
If we were ignored you Libs might miss a White dude bitching about a gay man or a black guy. God forbid that should happen, it would interrupt the Liberal time continuum.

Fuck that might be too much like free speech or something...

7   elliemae   2012 Aug 19, 3:48am

You are correct. But I was bored, the dog stopped chasing the ball...

Besides, sometimes there are these snotty comments sitting inside me that, if not given an appropriate birth, will fester until they permeate my entire being. Birth of a Troll...

But so far as publishing, a friend of mine is writing a family history in much the same manner that I wrote my book, complete with baby photos, etc. Amazon will print and family members can buy it (her price is very reasonable & she won't make a profit - it will cover amazon's costs is all). She doesn't want to sell to the masses, although she doesn't care if the book makes it into other people's hands. I was impressed at the thought.

It seems to me that a link or two, maybe the website and the amazon link are in order. I could look for them in other threads, but ....um....not going to.

Okay, next time I'll make a snide comment rather than offering good wishes. Just trying to help.

I forgot about the website link (I had seen yours in the past but forgot it was right there next to your name).

So many people are anonymous on here, that it slipped my mind that Patrick allows for a website link there, so not 'your bad' - but definitely worth posting the link for imperfect types such as myself.

I get it,.."l.e." Haha.

You get more directly through Createspace than through Amazon? That's odd, since Amazon owns Createspace. Why would they do that?

I most certainly didn't mean your comment - I meant Captain Shaddup. I didn't mean to offend you at all (or anyone).

I don't know why. It seems to be a promotion type thing. But I have a thing where I'm donating 10% of my net to charity and over the past 2 years have already sent $1,000 to a clinic that provides free medical care. So every penny counts.

I haven't even broken even on my expenses. But am closer.

(I'm not counting my long-term expenses when I figure net, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to donate. But am chipping away at them expenses.)

You didn't. It was my feeble attempt at humor. And I ordered your book -- it's on a subject I should know more about. Not sure if I got the first copy, but one of the first anyway...

Thanks! and the doctor's free clinic thanks you as well. :)

The one part of the book that I think is soooooooooooo much more valuable is the part that discusses why patients who are admitted to nursing homes often go without their medications for 12-24 hours when they are first admitted. Crazy. I've seen patients who are moaning in pain. And the nurses, whether filled with compassion or simply putting in their time, are powerless to act.

Knowledge is power. I doubt I'll change the system, but hopefully will provide info to make it easier for some people.

Eschew Obfuscation

Do you get into things like how the nursing home may try to trick family members into signing documents personally guaranteeing payment?

19   elliemae   2012 Aug 20, 12:55am

oh, yes. I also explain that there's a guy in CN who was successfully sued by a nursing home even though he was just the power of attorney - and what can be done to ensure it doesn't happen to you.

How about if you just ignore me, if you dislike me so much? Trolling & attacking other people - then doing the exact same thing is paying homage to the person you are attempting to denigrate.

I hope that I didn't use too big of words, there.

Elliemae, why are you approving totally irrelavant posts. I though you were moderating this discussion?

I guess I was so used to trolls that I allowed them to continue feeding - hell, I even fed them. But you're correct. It's my ball & my bat, so I am regulating who uses them & how. I have no interest in hijacking their threads, if they have 'em.

I posted this to inform people about a book that covers so much info about nursing homes and caring for the elderly that it's a bargain at twice the price.

28   Patrick   2012 Aug 22, 8:17am

I agree that the book is valuable. Ellie helped me when my mom was in a nursing home in 2008, and it was extremely useful to know how the system works. I'm glad she's captured all that info in a book.
