"As I understand it, and someone with more facts and figures can set me straight. I'm not too proud to be wrong, but this is how I understand it.

The goal of Romney's tax plan is to reduce the amount everyone pays by 20%. Not an absolute 20%, a relative 20%. That means that if you are currently paying 30% in taxes, you would then be paying 24% (30% * 0.80 = 24%). "

That means that if you are currently paying 30% in taxes, you would then be paying 24% (30% * 0.80 = 24%). To offset this 20% reduction in revenue, there will be a hard cap on how much an individual can write off in deductions. The number mentioned in...

To understand it correctly, you need to understand that the word "everyone" means different things to different people.

To Republicans, "everyone" means the top 1% of current income recipients. The goal is always that they should get more and pay less. Sometimes, that means cutting taxes on all current income recipients, at the expense of future income recipients. Those people don't realize it yet, so they don't matter. The mechanism is deficits. As Cheney said, deficits don't matter. (Of course deficits do matter, but the people to whom they will matter don't vote enough to matter.)

To Democrats, "everyone" means the bottom 20% of income recipients. For example, "universal healthcare" means "healthcare" for the bottom 20% of income recipients. If you aren't in that percentage, you aren't part of their universe. (Similarly, their definition of "healthcare" has nothing to do with health or care, but that's another story.)

To both major parties, the remaining 79% of the population are a resource to be exploited by the lobbyists who control the campaigns and revolving doors. It's easy to understand once you figure out the vocabulary.

What that is, is FELGERCARB!

The requirements to allow pre-existing conditions, and striking lifetime limits? That matters to virtually everyone in the 99%. Even people who are low-end millionaires, they can be as wiped out as anyone else, by a serious healthcare crisis.

Vicente, if ObamaCare does take effect, you will be deeply disappointed.

Back in the 90's I was repeating how HillaryCare would devastate the US and turn us from #1 into a Soviet gulag or something. I deeply believed it.

Now I believe quite sincerely that as flawed as ACA might be, it'll be far better than what we have now. I have two relatives with pre-existing conditions and it's life or death for them.

it's life or death

Panic is not conducive to reliable judgment or rational discussion, so there is no point debating the matter. Voters will decide next week. You will see the results thereafter.
