And so what if something is demonstrated to be incorrect? That is one of the great strengths of the scientific method. It is the reason why we have progressed as a species.

Science is a process.

Religion is a faith based belief system.

Repeatedly holding small bits over a bunsen burner and noticing that the material made largely of the same stuff has one color flame and those made up of other material has a different color has another is a process to gain knowledge.

Accepting that ~2000 years ago a tax collector had a vision on a road is an article of faith. Or talking donkeys, men living in whales, wrestling otre beings from beyond known reality, or parting seas in half. Or believing that a late Iron Age Jewish Carpenter had to be nailed to a cross to suffer for all men's sins, even though his "Father" could apparently create the entire universe by Fiat.

Not sure why this is happening in this thread, but I disagree. It's not about need or lack of need in the way you say.

Yes needing to have answers to everything is behind the belief or I guess (indirectly) faith of many religious or spiritual people.

But ironically needing to have answers is behind the atheist point of view(not all, but many) as well. They are not comfortable with the answer "I don't know"
and I DON'T NEED TO KNOW.

They declare that they do know, that god does not exist. Why, because they need to know, one way or the other.

I'm not talking all atheists. Some are very close to agnostics. They just don't believe, and it's not relevant to them (beyond disdain for some of the harm that extremists do in the name of religion).

Why is it, that every time a high profile person is caught in a sex scandal,

When the truth is, all men are dogs. There's plenty of infidelity across all socioeconomic scales.

I think it has to do with the current politically correct belief that women are pure as the driven snow. That no woman can ever do wrong and even if she kills her husband or children-than a man must have driven her to it.

If Tiger Woods was a bus driver, you think that bimbo would have married him? Or all those women slept with him? The same with Edwards , Clinton and Patreaus-these women were willing to do anything-anything-to get to know these people in power. Some were married with kids and that didn't stop them.

Two things. One: it was brilliant for Obama to appoint so many Republicans in his admin, since sooner or later one or more of them would fuck up like they always do and he could be all 'hey man, I tried . . .'

Now it seems as though 20-30,000 emails(email sex?) of the Gen and another Gen Allen, are under scrutiny for improper communications/relations with civilians, while one of those people has an intelligence background and also a security clearance. Those emails will be wisked away because of "an ongoing investigation". Coincidentally, Gen petraus is scheduled to testify about the Benghazi attack on an agency compound. That compound was also later exposed by two republicans in an attenpt to use the incident for some political gain right before the general election. That's a whole lot of emails that just went down the rat-hole of non-existence.

But, the number two guy in the republican party in the House, Eric Cantor, alledgedly knew about the then-secret compound before the election and surprisingly kept his mouth shut about it. Also, since when has an American diplomat been killed while in service to his diplomatic mission in a foreign country, and there's no state-level funeral for him?

To complicate matters even more, a socialite that's involved with the exposing of all this is now trying to claim diplomatic immunity.

A top General and CIA director isn't going to risk his reputation, position, or even his life on some hack author/honey trap. The classsified papers that she took probably were given to her in an effort by Petraus to cover his ass in some things that definitely went wrong. Cue Colin Powell on how to save face and reputation.

A shared gmail account, and only composed messages without sending. So each would login and check the drafts folder.
