Thing is, the evangelical turnout was higher this year than 2004 -- 26% vs 23% 8 years ago.
The split was the same as 2004 -- 78% of them for the Republican.

This is *very* surprising to me.
But Romney's numbers were lower than McCain's. I don't understand that at all. I guess the Christianists held their nose, since no way in hell did they want the crypto-muslim to remain in charge of "their" country, but plenty of other people with less skin in the game decided to sit this one out.
And since Obama lost millions of votes this time around too, that magnified the evangelical proportion I guess. Really a miracle Obama won this one, losing so many voters.
Kang vs. Kodos I guess.
I don't get the reasoning for the Christians etc. wanting a republican.
1. Thou should not kill, didnt gwb fuck that up? About a million times over.
2. Christians say Obama isn't supporting the Jews because he gives to Egypt?
Doesn't the Carlyle group hang with a bunch of saudis. I have seen plenty of pics with bush senior shakin hands with the princes.
3. It seems more about Obama being (shhh) 'a black man'
I am always looking for 'insightful' post analysis of the election. Not the obvious, syndicated crap... but the occasional gem that is written by some one who knows a particular perspective pretty well.
here is a nice writeup by NY Times
