East Portland: Despite efforts, plans and money, lasting success slow to arrive in Lents

Lents isn’t a case of broken promises so much as promise unrealized -- or overstated. City, state and federal taxpayers have spent several hundred million dollars rebuilding streets and sidewalks, adding bike lanes, solving flooding problems along Johnson Creek, building light rail to Clackamas County, installing public art and tearing down derelict property. Portland taxpayers are now Lents Town Center’s largest landholder.

Maybe this has something to do with it:

This sinkhole is a bit over a mile from Lents

More like 2-3 miles. Lents is further southeast than that neighborhood.

Don't think a sinkhole would do that much in the long-term. It's more that it's hard to make a ghetto neighborhood into a non-ghetto neighborhood.

Soooooooooooooooooooooo...

Basically what you're saying is that whole "Why are people flocking to Oregon" thing that all of the media outlets were reporting a few weeks ago. Was a Oregon's chamber of commerce ploy to play on peoples fears and emotions of not "jumping in on something because everyone else is doing it" Propaganda piece?
Even though people really weren't flocking to Oregon in masses?

O.K. I can't quite finger Obama on this one...

I stand corrected.

Of course they didn't come. They don't want their own lane. They just want you to know that they own your lane when you are in a car.

Then you just aren't trying hard enough. C'mon. We've seen way bigger stretches from you.

It doesn't matter: Agenda 21 will be implemented. It's over for America. Only death will bring relief.

Bike lanes mean nothing without bike purse snatcher porta-havens where they can pilfer and toss the purses unmolested.
