…..and uninformed.
And they like it that way.
"The less people know about important complex issues such as the economy, energy consumption and the environment, the more they want to avoid becoming well-informed, according to new research published by the American Psychological Association."
"In one study, participants who felt most affected by the economic recession avoided information challenging the government’s ability to manage the economy."

Cass Sunstien is giddy about the ramifications of this for his perception management efforts for the Deep State. Easy to "nudge" these dopes right off the cliff.

Well, that explains Fox News.

The people who did this study are stupid themselves. You don't need a study, I could have just told them.

I thought the Onion story said that studies reveal babies are stupid:

It's much more important to keep track of the Kardashians making another cock sucking selfie.

Babies are BRILLIANT, they wrap grownups around the tiny fingers and get them to look after their every need. Far more so any other creature.

The problem is we are ALL resistant to counter information.
(Think about how it feels to be effectively, completely, proved wrong)
This phenomenon is at work in YOUR brain, as well as the stupid idiots that you disagree with.

Factual Correction is Ineffective
http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/mariakonnikova/2014/05/why-do-people-persist-in-believing-things-that-just-arent-true.html
"But, when the researchers took a closer look, they found that the only people who had changed their views were those who were ideologically predisposed to disbelieve the fact in question. If someone held a contrary attitude, the correction not only didn’t work—it made the subject more distrustful of the source. A climate-change studyfrom 2012 found a similar effect. Strong partisanship affected how a story about climate change was processed, even if the story was apolitical in nature, such as an article about possible health ramifications from a disease like the West Nile Virus, a potential side effect of change. If information doesn’t square with someone’s prior beliefs, he discards the beliefs if they’re weak and discards the information if the beliefs are strong."

There are a lot of stupid people, but I think it's more lazy than stupid. I think most people are at least vaguely aware they're getting screwed big-time by the banks and multinational corporations. But only when a policy directly effects a person in a very very negative way will Americans fight back. The last time Americans mounted a serious protest was Viet Nam, and that was because they were being drafted and killed in the war. As long as they can watch the bachelor, kardashians, football, get SNAP and several dollar cups of coffee, they aren't going to do a thing. And I'm sure the government has studied and analyzed this issue with thousands of PHD pshycs and they now know how to pacify the people and just how far they can push them. There's a reason they ended the draft.

This study brings to mind a line from the Simon and Garfunkel song, The Boxer. "A man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest."
