http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-06-11/david-brat-sees-virtue-as-foundation-of-u-s-economic-success.html

“The one source of economic growth is virtue,” Brat, 49, told the Richmond Times-Dispatch in 2012. “It is not property rights, not law or resources, but virtue.”

Brat said in a 2004 paper that economists are “slow to acknowledge perhaps the most powerful institution in Western civilization: religion.”

“Give me a country in 1600 that had a Protestant-led contest for religious and political power and I will show you a country that is rich today,” he wrote.

-------------------------

Here you go. You just need to be virtuous and adhere to protestant faith and wealth will follow.

I guess banksters must be doing it right.

Who knew Brunei had a Protestant-led contest for political power in 1600?

Or Kuwait? Or Monaco? Or Andorra? Or Italy? Or France? etc. etc.

Ironic seeing as how he proclaimed that he intended to uphold the constitution and the beliefs of the "framers" of it. As such he would surely then know that means upholding their belief in the separation of church and state.bob2356 says

Actually, I do too. Its only been one day and already I look forward to whatever comes out of his mouth next.

Revolutions eat their first leaders (Cantor) and replace them with even stronger whackaloons.

It astounds me that Brat's statements are now regarded as only mildly insane.

Will some journalist please ask him for his views on rape, ASAP?

I'd say he might actually be on a totally different level than Palin.

He's like Palin, but he reads at the 12th-grade level, so he actually knows enough to mix reality with unhinged babbling. THAT is what can lead to some scary populism.

Palin had to resort to appeals to feces-flinging NASCAR fans, and flatter them by calling them "Real Americans", in order to imply that the dirty liberals who paid for all their dental work were not American. "Unga bunga bunga!" the NASCAR audiences roared, indicating approval by brachiating in circles and presenting.

An "atheist Muslim" would be acceptable.
