Reminds me of when Steve Cohen, who's district was 60%+ black, had his application denied to the Congressional Black Caucus in 2007, with one of the more prominent members and son of one of the original co-founders publicly stated:
"He does not, and cannot, meet the membership criteria, unless he can change his skin color. Primarily, we are concerned with the needs and concerns of the black population, and we will not allow white America to infringe on those objectives."
Normal people who see blacks as equals, and hold them to the same principles as everyone else, get outraged at stuff like this. Liberal whites, who see blacks like pets, just laugh it off and say it's ok because they think they are too stupid to know any better.

Why is it so outrageous that a black person would think that it's hard for a white person to truly represent the point of view and interests of disenfranchised backs?
I'm not saying they are right.
But if I think that point of view is understandable, or at least not surprising, it hardly means that I'm not normal, let alone does it mean that I laugh it off (because I see black people like pets,...wtf?)..

You know Marcus as America becomes more multicultural in spite of what you may think otherwise. Whites are increasingly becoming just another demographic of hundreds of different cultures, races, religions, and lifestyles that goes beyond your Limited view of a White and Black America stuck in Jim Crowe times, and slack jawed crackers.
As people like you spout your shit off and the middle class getting squeezed the most. Are increasingly becoming people who are neither White or Black. There aren't any active legislation that puts them to work, or takes work from them either way.

So, did anyone else notice that he was also teaching Chicano studies and Southeast Asian studies? Where were the protestors for those races? If the qualifications must include membership in the race of topic, then they'd need a philiblacktino candidate to apply and be awesome! Or maybe a Afrochintino? I don't think that the white man is 'trying' to keep the black man down. But I do think that blacks as a group are coming out of or out from, is just a little different than most typical immigrant groups. That is as a group or as a culture. And I'm not even talking slavery. I'm talking about the 100 years after that when a lot of mainstream AMerica considered them sub-human. We're talking the environment that the typical black American's parents and grandparents grew up and lived in. I get it, that you want them to just snap out of it, instantaneously.
But trust me, this whole subject doesn't particularly push my buttons the way it does yours. That should tell you something.
Here's an interesting video I ran across recently for you to consider, if you want to check out other perspectives on the subject of race, and learn how much of an asshole the white man has historically been with respect to darker races, especially in the 19th century.
Not directly related to this "converstation" but damn interesting. I was not aware of the magnitude of evil done by the British to Indians (in India)..

Again, my friend who narrowly escaped out of Afghanistan after an attach on her neighbor, states with fact that the US is the most free and most egalitarian and free country in the world by a very wide margin.
She proves with her stories that the women and minorities here have it made, even with the poverty we have. The people who live here in bad shape on Welfare have walls/roofs/water. No so in many places in the middle east, africa and india.

WHITES NEED NOT APPLY: Black Leaders In Fresno Oppose White ‘Cultural Studies' Teacher
Black community leaders in Fresno, Calif., are urging the Fresno Unified School District to re-evaluate the hiring of a white guy to teach three cultural studies courses at a brand-new middle school that will overwhelmingly serve minority students.
Rutherford B. Gaston Middle School — named after the city's first black principal — will open in a few short weeks. It's the first middle school in the immediate, poverty-ridden vicinity since 1979.
The protesters are unhappy because the school has chosen to hire Peter Beck, a person with white skin, over other, unidentified candidates, The Fresno Bee reports.
Beck will teach African-American studies, Latino studies and Southeast Asian studies.
On Monday morning, a small band of activists showed up in front of the sparkling new school at the corner of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Church Avenue. The local press was also there.
“We're just saying what the community wants,” said Rev. Karen Crozier, one of the activists. “We didn't fight for a white male or female teacher to educate our babies.”
Crozier, who appears to be a professor at Fresno Pacific Biblical Seminary, also suggested that a white person cannot teach minority children in this instance because of racism.
“We still are at these racial fault lines, and we want someone who will be able to think critically about those racial fault lines and how do we help heal, to restore the problems that have existed,” she explained.
Another black community leader, Paul McCoy of New Light for New Life Church of God, also spoke.
“We're all faced today with so much dysfunction and violence from young people, and that violence is simply because they don't know who they are, they don't know where they come from,” he proclaimed.
A spokeswoman for the school district, Micheline Golden, told the Bee that Beck has been teaching Latino studies courses for about a decade and African-American studies courses for a couple years.
“We are always looking at the best, most experienced, most qualified who can provide the best education for our young people,” she told the paper.
School district trustee Cal Johnson, who represents southwest Fresno, and who is himself a black man, robustly endorsed the hiring of Beck.
“I do not believe colorism trumps qualifications,” Johnson told the Bee. “I don't care whether it's white, whether it's black, brown or yellow.”
Beck previously taught at Fresno's Hoover High School.
One of his former students, Sabrina Fink, described the kerfuffle over his new job as “heart-wrenching.”
Fink, who is Hispanic, liked how Beck wrote quotes on the whiteboard and assigned projects for Mexican holidays in his Chicano studies class.
“He inspired all of us,” she gushed to the Bee.
Classes begin at Gaston Middle School on Aug. 18, notes local ABC affiliate KFSN.
