Terrorism killed 3k people on 9/11. Then it killed many more than that when we walked young Americans to their deaths in the hellscapes of Afghanistan and Iraq. Ukraine isn't exactly a beacon of press freedom. Just as Red as Russia. You'll remember this incident, where a sitting MP backed by thugs attacked a television station and forced a resignation of the station manager with violence. Several foreign reporters have been snatched by the Ukrainian government since the Putsch there.

Putin is well liked, like FDR in Russia. I've already explained why - doubling the GDP per head in about a decade after coming into office. Before he was in power, Russia had a Sri Lanka/Ukraine GDP per head. Now it's around Brazilian levels - in just a decade.

Putin only has two opposing groups: The Ultra-ultra orthodox nuts who want Imperial Russia Part 2 and the Compradore Class of Lawyers who remember how much commission they made selling out the country via corruption, "legal issues", and influence back in the 90s.
