Skyscrapers are a ominous signal that China's economy is in trouble.
Calif and SF have too many regulations for such "nonsense"
'of 0.35 magnitude or less'
there,I finished it for ya...

LOL. so if you stand on the top floor, and a 0.36 magnitude hits, you won't feel the earthquake, but you will certainly feel the building crash.
I'd rather be in Nepal.
Nevertheless, building a structure at that speed is what would keep construction costs down. Thank You China, now clear up that fuckin smog, because it's floating to where I live, and I DONT LIKE BREATHING IT.
A Chinese construction company is claiming to be the world's fastest builder
When it comes to building, I'll take well over fast any day, especially if it comes from China, the land known for its "quality".
especially if it comes from China
"Such modular approaches have been used for high-rise apartment blocks elsewhere, including in Britain and the U.S." If it isn't a cousin of "ad hominem," what logical fallacy applies to condemning the tree while ignoring the forest?
In SF, part of the housing crisis results from the fact that almost no new supply can get built, due mainly to the onerous zoning and planning restrictions. The skyline shows a few glaring exceptions, however: a few giant projects that do get built. People who have watched city politics can point out the distinguishing features of these projects: campaign finance to elected officials, and union contracts to build everything slowly with maximum local labor and thus generate union support. I respect labor unions, especially when they are really creating opportunities for union workers, but the city needs housing. Modular housing components could be built off site by union labor, and assembled on site by union labor, and it would still be faster and cheaper than what we have now. BTW, in some neighborhoods where cheap housing was built on fill, modern construction on caissons might be both better and safer.
"A Chinese construction company is claiming to be the world's fastest builder after erecting a 57-story skyscraper in 19 working days in central China... Such modular approaches have been used for high-rise apartment blocks elsewhere, including in Britain and the U.S... Mini Sky City, which has 19 atriums, 800 apartments and office space for 4,000 people, goes on sale in May. The structure is safe and can withstand earthquakes, Xiao said." (They say "19 working days" because the project was interrupted by winter weather.)
If SF chose to, it could solve SFBA's housing crisis within two years. Instead, SF gets piecemeal programs designed to capture constituencies while ensuring that housing prices can only ever go up, and embarrassing protests blaming tech buses for problems that are actually caused by zoning & planning restrictions.
