This guy must really, really be terrified of dying.

More so even than most boomers.

Well, he's a futurist, so his job is this kind of speculation. But it's true that he is obsessed with living a long time.

Even if the technology is there in 2030, it's questionable how long it would take to be accepted or embraced by humanity. It is intriguing though. IF there was a way to be hybrid, but by choice, and only when you wanted to, that is to connect with computers in a more direct way. But also implied is some rather extreme "learning" that I would think would be required.

This is great!

As soon as I mind-fuse with Ray Kurzweil, I'm gonna mind-dump my library of heavy metal bagpipe music while I'm nailing cats to my forehead.

That should keep fuckface Ray entertained.

I would pay for TV again if AF would have his own station - where Eraserhead would be shown during children's hour.

His wife says he can't even remember his honey-do list. How is he supposed to predict the future?

Ohhhh, I see LOTS of potential problems. First, how long before your 'choice' becomes something mandated by law? Second, how long before the computers take over many of your decisions despite what you REALLY wanted - the computer knows/knew better and made sure you didn't make the 'wrong' choice. Third, how long before someone (think government here) takes over those computers to make sure we all think they way we 'should' think? In my mind, I don't see very many good things that come from this.

What ? You don't want to be the borg ? But what if resistance is futile ?

I couldn't resist.

I have often thought that the smart phone phenomenon feels like a small step in the direction of the borg.

Yeah, it's going that way. The HUGE number of people who can't seem to do ANYTHING else except stare at their phones, it just amazes me. They are walking and
walk into poles, dog poop, fountains because they can't get their face out of their phones. They are driving, and rather than actually talk to someone, no, they have to TEXT
like that's a big plus when driving. So they drive like drunk drivers and darn near hit (or do hit) anything from curbs, to poles to people. Sad really. Last weekend we had a
commemorative run for 9/11 at my airport. One gal was ... uh, overweight and (obviously) had done any training for the event (even though it was only a 3K). She was dragging up the rear of the pack and moving poorly and slowly. So I offered to give her a ride (I was driving a golf cart) to the next water station. Her face was locked on her phone, I finally mentioned that we were passing several aircraft that were worth looking at, including some that she wouldn't normally see (google NASA Guppy) - which FINALLY got her to look up and she said, "Wow, those are really neat." Ya think???

I can imagine Google and the NSA salivating: reading your thoughts directly in real-time and sending advertisements stimuli directly to your decisions centers.

Ray Kurzweil is a 6-sigma nincompoop. He should go back to making jukeboxes or whatever it was he was doing before he became a futurist. That way he would also have a place to store his grand collection of broken records.

I find some of his talks interesting. He's willing to speculate, and of course he's not going to get it exactly right. Even he sees the dangers, so talking about this stuff gets the right people thinking about which way things go, way in advance. That's why google hired him, among other reasons.

Humans need to always have the freedom to not connect to the networks if they so choose. . As things get more connected, there will probably be growing movements of people that want to be as disconnected as possible.

Maybe Kurzweil is just describing the masses of drones who are buzzing around on facebook, twitter and instagram. We already have that, it is one big hivemind, as some people call it.

There is still no hope for Dan. He will chose a Microsoft OS, which will only freeze his brains.

14   Ceffer   2015 Sep 15, 10:56pm

I think a more accurate term would be porno connected hybrid brains, it would be non-stop.

We are already there. The human brain has been in a cloud since the invention of the smart phone.
