People now automatically register to vote upon receiving DL or Identification card at DMV.
Since there are between 6 and 7 million Californians who remain unregistered to vote, voting rights advocates see the measure as a way to save money, boost security and reduce barriers to participation in elections. The state experienced record low turnout for a regularly scheduled general election last November, in which just 42 percent of Californians who were registered voted.

The way automatic registration works is relatively simple: Eligible citizens are registered to vote when they show up at a Department of Motor Vehicles office to obtain a driver’s license or state ID.

Sounds really cool, until you remember that before this they gave all illegals driver licenses, so now they can use them as votes. And if there is any usual business, anyone who does not vote, will be automatically counted in some backroom as a vote for the establishment. This bill in my opinion has nothing to do with freedom or with votes, it's about getting illegals to vote and other various possible voter fraud that helps establishment stay establishment. Well played Jerry, well played, might as well sell CA right back to Mexico while at it.

So citizens of other countries can vote in the USA? That is ridiculous!

Reading comprehension? I think not.

Eligible citizens are registered to vote

Eligible = has driver license or ID card. citizenship isn't required.

Funny, the law says eligible citizens. I would think that someone that actually lived in CA would know that licenses issued to non citizens are marked as such. So are ID cards. Every read a paper called the LA times? Here's an article. http://www.latimes.com/local/political/la-me-pc-half-of-new-driver-licenses-go-to-immigrants-here-illegally-20150717-story.html Now go to the 5th paragraph. It's ok if you have to use your fingers to count that high. It says Many more immigrants are in line to receive the specially marked licenses, which do not entitle them to vote or board airplanes.

Citizenship is required to register otherwise it's a felony. You have to check the box testifying you are a US citizen and a resident of CA. That is a legal affidavit. If you lie it's perjury. If you really lived in CA and had registered to vote you would know you also provide the last 4 digits of SS number. I don't even live there and I knew that.

Why don't you actually go volunteer at a county elections board and find out how elections really work instead of endlessly looking foolish. It's really a shame that citizens don't know how their own government works.

Voter fraud is very minor but real. http://articles.latimes.com/2008/oct/20/local/me-fraud20 Oh my republican voter fraud. Who would have believed it? Say it ain't so joe.

Than tell me how are my non-citizen neighbors constantly get the register to vote letters and jury duty notices? Even they find it funny. Sounds like reality doesn't quite match the thingy in LA times there. Genius...

Because they get the addresses from the DMV? Isn't there a check box on the summons for non-citizens? Pretty sure that was the case for my wife.

Oh yes I forgot you are the redneck racist who lives in east la hanging with the mythical illegals that lived all their lives in the US and don't speak a word of english. Yea, sure right. If you're going to make shit up you should at least try make it a tiny little bit plausible.

Maybe it's because county election boards who send out these letters don't have access to citizenship status. Maybe you should go serve on an election board and learn what you are talking about. Na, better to just spout random bullshit.

So if the thingy in the LA times is wrong feel free to provide the relevant statue of California law that documents why it is wrong. I'll be waiting. Probably until the sun goes supernova. Or even better ask one of your illegal immigrant neighbors to show you their DL to see if it is marked or not. Genius.

Curiosity overwhelms me, how did you actually register to vote and were somehow weren't aware you provided the last 4 of your ss number?

FortWAyne should not be eligible to vote if he thinks this is even remotely possible. It proves he is far too stupid to be voting. How could you possibly interpret that sentence in that way ? Eligible in that context obviously means eligible to register to vote. I.e. they are a citizen of the U.S and a resident of California.

I suppose in this sentence from FW's linked piece he also thinks eligible means eligible for a derivers license ?

(The federal National Voter Registration Act of 1993 already requires states to give eligible voters the opportunity to register to vote when they apply for a new or renewed driver’s license.)

It's just becoming automatic in Ca., which makes sense. What harm is there in being registered to vote if you are eligible ? Don't worry, this isn't going to very many more people (read impoverished liberal takers) to vote
