(CNN)French military planes bombed a series of ISIS sites in Raqqa, Syria, on Sunday in what officials described as a major bombardment.

The targets included a command center, a recruitment center, an ammunition storage base and a training camp for the terror group, said Mickael Soria, press adviser for France's defense minister.

ISIS claims Raqqa as the capital of its so-called caliphate. The airstrikes come two days after ISIS claimed responsibility for a series of terrorist attacks in Paris on Friday. France's President described those attacks as "an act of war."

Funny, one month of Russian bombing and the Pershmerga and the Syrian Army is rolling up ISIS left and right.

Get on the anti-Saudi Barbaria bandwagon and stop pretending there is some non-existent third way.

OK Dan.....Why are the evil French killing women and children?
How about you Indigenous? should foreigners completely withdraw from the ME, and let ISIS get their hands on nukes?

4   Dan8267   2015 Nov 15, 2:51pm

False dichotomy. One can strike at terrorists without deliberately targeting children. Just like cops can target criminals without shooting sleeping 9-year-old girls and framing their grandmothers for it.

To me, a "major air raid" is more like Dresden in February 1945, or Tokyo on March 9-10, 1945.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bombing_of_Tokyo
On the night of 9–10 March ("Operation Meetinghouse"),[12] 334 B-29s took off to raid with 279 of them dropping 1,665 tons of bombs on Tokyo. The bombs were mostly the 500-pound (230 kg) E-46 cluster bomb which released 38 napalm-carrying M-69 incendiary bomblets at an altitude of 2,000–2,500 ft (610–760 m). The M-69s punched through thin roofing material or landed on the ground; in either case they ignited 3–5 seconds later, throwing out a jet of flaming napalm globs. A lesser number of M-47 incendiaries was also dropped: the M-47 was a 100-pound (45 kg) jelled-gasoline and white phosphorus bomb which ignited upon impact. In the first two hours of the raid, 226 of the attacking aircraft unloaded their bombs to overwhelm the city's fire defenses.[13] The first B-29s to arrive dropped bombs in a large X pattern centered in Tokyo's densely populated working class district near the docks in both Koto and Chuo city wards on the water; later aircraft simply aimed near this flaming X. The individual fires caused by the bombs joined to create a general conflagration, which would have been classified as a firestorm but for prevailing winds gusting at 17 to 28 mph (27 to 45 km/h).[14] Approximately 15.8 square miles (4,090 ha) of the city was destroyed and some 100,000 people are estimated to have died.

Not THATS how you win a war!

No it's not, the reason that the A bomb was dropped on Nagasaki and Hiroshima was because those napalm raids had already raised all of the other big cities many of them with NO military value, IIRC they killed 1 million civilians in those raids. The Japanese government offered a surrender with one caveat that they emperor not be tried for war crimes. Truman elected to drop the A bombs in order to secure an unconditional surrender, the emperor was never tried for war crimes.

As much as possible get out of the ME, you bet. There is a lot of propaganda about this stuff especially about Iran. Where would ISIS get their hands on nukes?

Pakistan has lots of nukes, and the technology to keep making lots more. All it takes is a corrupt insider to sell a few nukes and the technology to make more nukes, for $10 million. And wham .....10 million people get vaporized.

Except the Peshmerga advance into Sinjar was down to them and your country. Why are people on this forum so desperate to dish out praise to Putin when most of their bombing hasn't been directed at ISIS and is restricted to Syria?

Question should be the other way around. How come ISIS was advancing constantly during a year of alleged US bombing, and after just a few weeks of Russian bombing they're getting pushed back on all fronts? The US, with all it's satellites, Drones, Recon Planes, can't find convoys of dozens of shiny white Toyotas moving around highways in the open desert in broad daylight during the course of an Entire Year!? Funny, didn't have a problem finding vehicles out in the middle of the desert in 1991.

Guess ISIS must have the Magic Islamic Toyota Cloaking Device, they brought from the Romulans.

Of course the majority of Russian bombing isn't directed at ISIS, look at a map. It's the Al Qaeda Led "Moderate (Islamist) Rebels" that are the immediate threat to the Syrian regime and were close to the big cities in the West were the vast majority of the population lives. Even so, Russia targeted ISIS within the first few days of the attack.

They haven't been making huge advances in Iraq as far as I'm aware except for Ramadi. And it takes time to create a functioning army - air power alone is clearly not going to stop them. You saw the images of the Peshmerga. Many of them looked like they were kitted out in US military gear. I presume they've been undergoing considerable military training by US forces as well.
ISIS made gains in Syria because Assad's army has been buckling - hence the need for Hezbollah, Iran and now Russia to come in and prop them up - and it's not as if they are suddenly sweeping aside ISIS even with that increased involvement.

He has a good point. If the US is giving intel to the French, why haven't WE already bombed those location????

We should attack these targets of known terrorist groups BEFORE they attack us, not after. All those people in Paris could have been saved if we united with the rest of the world, and taken out ISIS when they were an emerging threat.
It's the liberals like Dan who stop us.

21   Y   2015 Nov 16, 8:14am

Maybe those targets are known ISIS hideouts, but we are waiting for intel on who's inside before taking it out...more bang for the buck.
As far as the frenchies bombing targets now, they probably are in need some instant revenge.....

ISIS is a pawn of the Saudis and is supposed to help against Bachar.

Here's why Obama hates the middle east: no one is doing what Obama wants them to.
- ISIS is supposed to attack Bachar but instead attacks Iraq.
- Bachar is supposed to fall but clings like an oyster to a rock.
- The Russians are supposed to destroy ISIS but instead spares them.
- The Turks are supposed to attack ISIS but instead buy oil from them and attack the Kurds
- The Kurds are supposed to defend Iraq, but instead try to create Kurdistan, overlapping a NATO country.
- Iraq is supposed to stand and fight but they run.
- The Saudis are supposed to bomb ISIS but instead supports them behind the scene.
- Now even Israel is fighting Obama.

So when France comes around and actually drop bombs somewhere in the middle, Obama is happy.

Since saudi arabia is the next ISIS target I don' think the house of saud is going to hand them nukes. Why would you even begin to think this? What have you been reading that would support such an insane idea?

How the fuck do Keyhole Sats, F-16s, F-15s, FA-18s, Drones, ELINT and HUMINT not detect massive convoys of oil tankers and hundreds of bright white Toyota Convoys stretching for miles on the open desert highways steaming back and forth between Eastern Syria and the Turkish Border in broad daylight?

That question should scare the F*%k out of Americans.

Keep in mind we destroyed god knows how many armored vehicles in the Iraqi Desert, many of them dig in and camo'd, in the early 90s. But apparently even more expensive equipment 25 years later is incapable of detecting shiny white civilian vehicles riding on an open highway in huge numbers, covered with ISIS flags.

27   MisdemeanorRebel   2015 Nov 16, 8:10pm

Russia began by mostly attacking the forces pressing the most closely on the Syrian Government's population centers, which would be Homs and Hama, and the opponents there are AQ/Al Nusra.

The whole "Russia isn't bombing ISIS" is both untrue and misleading. The first day of the bombings they hit ISIS targets, and they never ever said they were only going to bomb ISIS. They said they were going to hit insurgents, and they did. Al Qaeda is an official terrorist group enshrined in UN Resolutions and indeed in US Law.

It's a variant of the "Did you stop beating your wife?" type of question. A PR Trick like "That's old news" when something denied for years is proven absolutely true.

It's really too bad the only sources of news you get come with crayons. It limits you in so many ways. Maybe you and your butt bro stratagist should try some news sources that don't have thomas the train and bob the builder as the main theme. I realize it's really really tough when you have more than 2 or 3 sentences per page, but try to persevere. I'm sure with a sustained and concerted effort on your part you could move all the way up to Ranger Rick. Imagine the possibilities.

ISIS is getting something like $2 millions a day selling oil to Turkey. Why isn't the US sanctioning the hell out of these actors: banks, oil companies, etc... that participate in this trade? Why isn't the oil infrastructure destroyed? Why did the US left tons of military vehicles in Irag when Isis was coming?

The more you see this half-assed US response, the more it is obvious that the US is in fact trying to USE ISIS.

Which one of you gets to be on top while you two are fudge packing each other? or do you take turns?

Snappy comebacks though, for 1st grade. Did you guys think this clever stuff up all by yourselves or did you have some not terribly bright 6 year old as a consultant? The good thing is if you guys keep on working on it you can move up from inane to just plain old asinine or with a real effort maybe shoot for foolish.
