Most of the 2.7 million Shia in Saudi Arabia live in al-Ahsa and al-Qatif districts in the country's eastern province, which also contains the bulk of the kingdom's oil. Ruled by a Sunni monarchy and under a strict interpretation of Islam, Wahabbism, Shia are often portrayed as heretics or agents of Riyadh's major rival, Iran.

I didn't know this. If those Shiites break away from Saudi Arabia, they take most of the oil wealth with them.

Pretty amazing how almost all the oil is in Shiite areas.

It appears that "follow the money" would yet again be the path leading to enlightenment about what intra-muslim rivalry is all about.

Now, why did not all the geniuses in the US State Department (or in Congress, or in the NY Times for that matter) tell us this, oh 35 years ago? They must have known. It is ridiculous how ill-informed western media are. And how money silences every truth.
