That's what happens when you have a threesome with Mick Jagger and Rudolf Nureyev.
I was amazed at his ability to re-invent himself during his very long career. He was huge during the early MTV days, and his music, like Let's Dance, was frequently played at parties. An amazing talent.
In Labyrinth, the only question is whether you get your eyes poked out by Connely's Nipples or Bowie's mancleavage.
I don't think there's a single individual who inspired other musicians more than Bowie.
Bowie's forgotten first career: Long-haired Activist for Long Hair, Davey Jones.

Not many singers could pull this off; Bowie was the opener for the Concert for New York City, post 9/11. He strode out the front of the stage, sat down cross legged with only a cheesy Casio keyboard as accompaniment and unleashed a spellbinding version of Simon & Garfunkel's America. Youtube appears to be blocking footage from most of the concert, but here's a rendition with the audio feed.
If we could all be as creative as Bowie was in our respective fields, the US would be the innovation capitol - solidly/unshakably.
Regards,
It was very considerate of him to die as his final album is being released. There is no better rock star publicity stunt to increase sales and encomiums than the rock star's death.

During the week after Frank Sinatra's death, his records doubled in value--you had to start paying ten cents for any of them.

I hope he faked his own death in order to launch another new persona.
"The Velvet Goldmine" was a good movie, but it didn't seem to register much on anybody's radar.
Let's not forget Bowie the financial innovator; he was one of the first celebrities to sell bonds on his back catalog (pre-1990 albums). Talk about the big short. One could say he was prudently diversifying his financial portfolio, or perhaps he did have a crystal ball and could see the coming of Napster.
The iconic rock star, whose death [in 2016] shook the world, lived out his final years in New York, with his wife Iman and daughter Lexi, 15, where he lived the life of a family man.
But shortly after being diagnosed with cancer, he took his family to see the city that made him a star, visiting the Tower of London, the London Eye, and the house where he was born in Brixton."
