I find it quite amusing how large an issue the media can ignore during Obama's administration.

Granted, we are accustomed to inflamatory language from Iran, Syria, North Korea, ISIS and others from the third world, but this week's sabre-rattling bravado du jour comes from the government and military of China.

China has drawn a line in the water and is daring anyone to cross it. An international Tribunal at The Hague has found their claims legally groundless (so to speak).

Idiotically, this Nine Dashed Line is drawn far across even the continental shelves of the Indonesian islands that share the international waters. They have destroyed coral reefs that are tens of thousands of years old to create artificial islands that can serve as impromptu military bases - effectively quintupling the territorial waters of China in the region in only the years since Obama was elected.

The US has sent out a massive show of military force in defiance of China's threats of sovereignty over the entire South China Sea by sailing aircraft carriers and battleships directly to the disputed territories.

Now Russia has announced plans to join China in joint military War Games in the South China Sea in a display of solidarity with China and a vote of no confidence in The Hague ruling.

Chinese, Russian, and US carriers, destroyers, subs, and other battleships rubbing shoulders together in the same disputed pond.

"War" was not the word I chose in regard to this mess. It was the word chosen by Chang Wanquan the Chinese Minister of Defense within the last couple of days.

I wonder if we could manage to actually begin World War 3 between China, Russia, Syria, Iran, North Korea and everyone else without the Western News even mentioning it at all.

We just can't have a World War evolve almost entirely on Obama's watch just a few month's before the election. That would spoil everything.

To paraphrase..."to have your ships and ours, your planes and ours in SUCH proximity is inherently dangerous. Wars have begun that way Mr. Ambassador"

Ah...but if the media just ignores it, it isn't really happening.

Bow and kiss China's ring for passage through the South China Sea. The other guys do something while we do nothing, and now, here we are. Make no mistake the Chinese arrogance is matched only by our own. A grim portent of things ahead...

What media do you use? The subject was in the media any number of times.

In the past few days, we sent a heavy naval force to within 12 miles of one of the new China Insta-island military bases

New Insta-Island. (Just add sea water and tarmac. Stir vigorously until thousands of square miles of international waters belong to you!)

It will be interesting to see how the media handles the South China Sea issue now that they can blame any international tension on Trump.

This is unquestionably problem that predates him.

Can't blame em to snub The Hague - the EU (and UN) have become a rapefugee importing laughing stock, hell bent on destroying their own founding culture. Why should anyone take directions from them?

Thank you, Obama!

This is where the Ministry Of Truth (a.k.a. NYT) comes in.

Obama built that.

Time to update this thread. I have a two fold purpose. China is even more emboldened and the propaganda on the ownership of the South China Sea AND Taiwan has increased enough that our agencies have their third eye more attentively focused on that particular pond.

Unfortunately, we have not only dropped our guard on the threat that matters most, but apparently invited China right in our digital backdoor in the guise of fun and games...

The threat is AI, which I can guarantee we don’t understand, because that is the point of the technology - solving problems that WERE by definition unsolvable. It is not unlike “accepting” such a thing as infinite time and space but never truly “comprehending” it.

Here is just a random recent appetizer...

I’ll explain the fun and games reference later, maybe.
