That was pretty funny. Got to figure out how to embed vimeo videos. I'll work on that tomorrow.

I've lived near Lake Merritt for a few years as a child in the 80s and lived in the Oakland Hills between 2007-2013 as an adult. I still have property there that I rent out.

Oakland is an interesting city... It's got affluent areas and also some of the scariest slums in CA today, and things can change very quickly in just a few blocks.

I've known a couple OPD officers over the years that told me that there are parts of Oakland that they won't go into during certain hours without backup. And I can tell you that I've called 911 once in the past and had nobody picked up, I repeat, the phone rang and rang and rang. I had to call back later and finally got a hold of someone. That was an eye opener as I thought in the United States of America you can expect 911 to pick up the phone.

I also have a vivid memory of my mom's screams as she got her pursue snatched violently off her shoulder while walking me to pre-school. I feel like everyone who has lived in Oakland has these types of memories/stories.

I've lived in the San Mateo/San Carlos areas since 2013 and never once felt threatened or felt like I had to look over my shoulder. In Oakland, even in places like Rockridge or Montclair, I always felt like I had to be vigilant and alert because even the affluent areas have a lot of transients/opportunists.
