If you think that portion of the essay got him into Stanford, that's a pretty poor understanding of that applicant.

As reported in the linked article, it was his entire essay in response to the question, “What matters to you, and why?†In the article, he goes on to say that "one-fourth to one-third of the Muslim community in America are black," which is why black lives matter to him: in America, black lives are disproportinately likely to be Muslim lives. Otherwise, the "activism" that he called an "asset" appears to be mainly on behalf of Islam.
Muslim teenager repeats #Blacklivesmatter 100 times on Stanford application and is accepted
And the jigs will still beat the crap out of him if they catch him in the hood which is basically what he needs to round out his education.
So, being a sanctimonious little twat gets you into Stanford and Yale these days? Whouda guessed political correctness would be this mandatory.
Stanford could use a good vest bombing.

In other words, he cares about fellow tribe members more than anything.
Also, I didn't know Erik Estrada converted to Islam. Kid looks just him.
Remember folks, expressing concern that members of your tribe are losing out is a Good Thing if you're a minority, but not if you're white, male, and Christian - or nerdy, or a gamer - or any of the other not politically correct groups.

What school is going to welcome me as a disabled veteran?

If you are lucky, maybe Chabot College in Hayward, CA
"We live in a world where we are suffocated by societal expectations," he said,
I feel that way when I'm expected to clean my table at Taco Bell.
Old Leland would not be pleased. And Stanford is not nearly as bad as Berkeley.

I wonder if Stanford might be angling for some of the publicity and millions of Petrodollars that can flow from signaling devotion to Islam. The story of one student's Tweet seems to have hit commercial media worldwide with almost simultaneous full length articles, suggesting a possibly coordinated PR campaign with checks attached. Someone appears to be investing in exposure. Ziad's bio is very impressive for an 18yo, including four articles for the Huffington Post, one of which featured on "the front page;" all four are along the lines of, "It is not easy to be American-Muslim...." He's met President Obama and Secretary of State Clinton, dined at the White House, been awarded prizes for his activism, gained admission to Stanford: whether "easy" or not, it looks much better than being a non-Muslim in Bangladesh. I do wish that he'd persuade Bangladeshis and Pakistanis to agree with the tolerance that he claims to believe in, rather than trying to spread the hateful fraud of Islam here.
Curious, this sort of thing is common.
Currently, I'm working with an admissions counselor on packaging my profile for future medical school admissions, making myself look like the big "Rainmaker", who can bring in the donations, etc. But hey, if that gets me a seat at a place like JHU Med, I'll take it.
The notion that an elite American university is some bastion of real intellectual prowess is a fantasy, as former Vice President Al Gore Jr himself, flunked out of law school (F's, not D's), proving that his admissions to Harvard undergrad was merely the result of being a fortunate son of a senator, Al Gore Sr.
without the returned favor he would have never been admitted to Stanford:

your tribe are losing out

He has also been accepted to Yale University and Princeton University, and must decide which school to attend by 1 May.
He was accepted to Yale, Princeton, and Stanford for writing #blacklivesmatter 100 times? How did that work?
Did you expect him to ride out his That 70's Show royalties forever?
He got into Yale and Princeton too. My guess is, he got in due to his own merits.
If he is not a Muslim fanatic I wish him well. If he is a Muslim fanatic, I don't wish him well at all.
My guess is, he got in due to his own merits.
Being from Fairfax county helps, in terms of opportunity. He is probably a moderate Muslim, but a regressive leftist for sure, as he worked for Clinton campaign.
If he is not a Muslim fanatic I wish him well. If he is a Muslim fanatic, I don't wish him well at all.
How does that work, All muslims are fanatics to you.
All devout Muslims are in fact fanatics, because moderate Islam does not exist:
Ali says as a former devout Muslim, she understands the ideological dangers of Islam, and has said called for Muslim schools in Australia to be shut down. “I don’t believe there is such a thing as ‘moderate Islam,'†she said.

You'd have to ask the admissions departments there. This particular article was about Stanford. His main activism and all his HuffPo articles are about being a teenage Muslim Bangladeshi American (the sequence varies) and how that is "not easy," you know, what with dining at the White House and meeting the President and separately meeting the Secretary of State and now having to choose a college major. Life is tough these days, I tell you. Meanwhile, in Bangladesh, Muslims are murdering non-Muslims with impunity, as per Islam. Somehow he doesn't have time to mention that, you know with all the Ted talking and collecting prizes and whatnot.
If you think that portion of the essay got him into Stanford, that's a pretty poor understanding of that applicant.
Regardless of his credentials, I would say writing that on your college essay should automatically disqualify you from attending because you clearly aren't taking the application seriously. There are two possibilities here that I can see. Stanford either doesn't care what you write or they don't actually read the essays. Just knowing people in general, I'm going with the latter.

This.

This kid is a smart dude. There is a good chance of smart people not believing in Islamic crap.

I agree with this. It's a gimmick that is somewhat clever because black lives matter is both a thing and a reason for being important. It's plaigerism to claim that part though. The only thing original is repeating it 100 times. That a terrible go at an essay.

It would be interesting to find out how rich his parents are.
"“Everyone who received your application was inspired by your passion, determination, accomplishments, and heart,†the acceptance letter read.
It added: “You are, quite simply, a fantastic match with Stanford. You will bring something original and extraordinary to our campus – a place where you can learn, grow, and thrive.â€
Mr Ahmed told MIC that he was “stunned†to be accepted.
“I didn't think I would get admitted to Stanford at all, but it's quite refreshing to see that they view my unapologetic activism as an asset rather than a liability,†he said.

The Bangladeshi-American has already attended the White House Iftar dinner, a religious observance of Ramadan, and in 2016 he interned for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.

"To me, to be Muslim is to be a BLM ally, and I honestly can't imagine it being any other way for me," Mr Ahmed said.

In 2015 the 18-year-old gave a TedxTalk in Panama about what it was like to be a Muslim teenager in the US.
"We live in a world where we are suffocated by societal expectations," he said, adding he had been "labelled more times than a GMO [genetically modified product]".
He has also been accepted to Yale University and Princeton University, and must decide which school to attend by 1 May.
Mr Ahmed has also to decide what his undergraduate degree will be, and is interested in international relations, science, economics and ethnicity studies."
