Rep. Steve Scalise was shot Wednesday morning in Alexandria, Virginia, a House colleague told CNN, in what sources are calling an apparent "deliberate attack."

The shooting took place at a practice for the GOP congressional baseball team.
Scalise, a member of the House Republican leadership as the majority whip, appeared to have been shot in the hip and it appeared two Capitol Hill police agents were shot, according to Rep. Mo Brooks, who told CNN he was on deck when the shooting occurred.
According to both congressional and law enforcement sources, the shooting appears to be a "deliberate attack."

I denounce the shooting. Violence has no place in Politics. From a democrat leaning folk

That's insultingly insufficient. Our society is drowning in a cesspool of advocated division, and you're describing the water?

Who commits the most gun violence of the political type in the US, right wing fanatics or left wing fanatics?

According to all credible crime stat databases (FBI, CDC, etc), Democrats BY FAR (5 to 1 ratio).

Really, please show me the database of POLITICAL gun violence (you may include any mass shooting if you like) that has party membership in the database. I bet you can't. You are making this stuff up.

Why does it matter if it's "politically" motivated? Gun violence is somehow different if the motivation is based upon a political ideal? You're trying to move the goal post because you know your point is absolute horse shit.

The simple fact is DEMOCRATS as a whole commit far more gun crimes nationally than any other political alignment. These are facts.

Who is going to be the calm rational person, denouncing violence, asking and seeking political transparency, and uniting all Americans? It sure as hell isn't going to be Trump.

Certainly better than "Basket of Deplorables" Hillary.

I didn't vote for Trump, and have never voted for a GOP presidential candidate (voted for Rapist Clinton twice), and it's transparently clear which party is stoking the fires of rebellion and violence.

Certainly an attack of self expression on an online internet forum, for whatever insufficiency in their communication you perceive, is far better. Right?

Seriously, your solution here on Pnet is what? Post a cat meme picture?

Ha. The backlash against Trump is caused by the very hate he rode to victory on. You can claim an "I have met the enemy and he is us" moment, but the alt-right is the most divisive thing I've seen in the nation in my lifetime.

I do agree with the "He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster." sentiment though.

Gotcha. I knew all along what you were really saying. You wanted to blame gun violence on poor and brown people, who indeed are more likely to vote democrat, although not always. Still no data, of course, but that does not seem important to you. What about poor white people who are right-wing? How is their gun violence rated?

Of course you KNEW what I was talking about. Blacks and Hispanics are commit 80% of the violent crime in the United States (including gun homicides) with whites and other minorities taking the rest. Seeing as how Blacks vote 90% Democrat, and Hispanics vote over 70% Democrat, it's pretty obvious that Democrat voters are responsible for the majority of gun crimes nationally.

Got a problem with that conclusion bro?

You have to ask yourself why Trump voters had that sentiment in the first place. Perhaps Obama should have paid more attention to poor whites instead of spending 8 years ignoring them or chastising them for their "privilege" fostering his own "wave of hate".

Incorrect, Trump rode in upon the votes of citizens. A vote in itself cannot be hateful. Any descriptive attachment to a vote, is simply propaganda in the current environment.

Sure. A characterization can be political, but you cannot deny there are motives behind someone's vote.

Potential fair criticism, but per above, it is interesting to see Trump as a punitive vote against Obama. If that is true, what is this solving?

Not against Obama, against a DNC platform that ostracized poor whites (the voting demographic that pushed Trump into office). I'll let leftist favorite Michael Moore explain what happened since he hit the nail on the head.

Our local news reported the guy asked onlookers whether it was democrats or republicans in the field before he opened fire. I stress I heard that one time by our local channel, but have not heard that claim again yet/since.

It's all over twitter, FOX, everywhere.

There was initial uncertainty as the asker was described as wearing sweatpants, and the shooter was described as being in jeans. It took some time to clear, but looks credible. This guy was looking to shoot politicians of a certain stripe. Awful.

There are so many many different motivations at play here. Trump didn't win because of X, Hillary didn't lose because of Z ... things happened because of the whole alphabet.

I've only seen fear and division as a primary tactic from one party as of late.

Sure, but if you look at the biggest change from 2012 to 2016, it was the shift of white working class who came out in big numbers for Trump. Michigan, and Wisconsin had not voted GOP since Reagan. 200+ counties flipped and went to Trump when they had voted for Obama in 2008 and 2012.

I'm a centrist libertarian, so I dish criticism at both sides, but the biggest factor in the 2016 election was the working class white vote who the Democrat party chose to ignore to satisfy the SJWs that have taken over that party.

There's a reason why, despite the entirety of the leftist leaning MSM media trying to paint Trump as a cuck subservient to Russia, that the DNC's favorability ratings have fallen to decades long lows (May 2017 Gallup). Working class people don't give a shit about Tom Clancy spy stories. They just want a job and they want to be able to pay their bills. Trump is the ONLY one talking about that (and to a certain extent Bernie sanders). But the leadership of the DNC (Pelosi, Schumer, Warren) have spent all their energy making up fairy tales about Russia.

Of course there can be motivation behind someone's vote, yet who has authority over them if not the individual?....some people voted for Trump for concern of the National debt. How is that hateful? In fact, there may be many motivations that are not hateful, yet are described as so....that is propaganda.

From the department of unintended consequences: In the same way as the Republican party suddenly became a friend of Russia once Democrats started hating Russia, perhaps the Republican party will now act in favor of gun control?

What will likely happen is that the continuing stream of hate from Democrats will lead to big victories in 2018 and 2020. According to a May Gallop poll, Democrats have a 40% favorability rating, whatever made up fantasy they tried to dream up about Russia-Trump has never stuck, and they invested 7+ months of their energy into it. Total fail.

As for gun control, and what I'm about to say is backed by FBI statistics, if you took the right to own and bear arms from Democrats, gun crime would go down by 80%.

B.b.b.but muh 💪🏽 (that's guns for those who don't know)

It's a zero sum game, because if a cis-gender unicorn south pacific zambian lesbian immigrant wins, a hetero-normal white American ends up destitute on the street.

What fucked up language and narrative this is. As long as people feel this way, the nation will remain screwed.

I'll declare it right now: this deepens until we are at nation on nation conflict with a serious adversary, or some other horrible external crisis pushes us together. What will happen up until that time, States are going to drift apart in political leanings and local laws.

76   justme   2017 Jun 14, 11:58am

Was it TERRORISM?

UPDATE: Apparently the sarcasm was lost on some people. Allow me to elaborate: If a brown person did it: TERRORISM. If a right-winger did it: NOT terrorism, but LIBERATION of FREEDOM. If a white male did it: nominally NEVER terrorism, BUT in this rare case the man appears to be a Bernie Sanders supporter, hence TERRORISM. I'm posting this just in case anyone needs to update their algorithm due to today's special corner case, which may not have been handled properly by previous versions of the algorithm. Yes, sarcasm, again!

The right-wing is trying to meme the Alexandria/VA mass shooting into being the fault of "hateful left-wing media", not just here on Patnet, but also in the mainstream media. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Illinois) was at the baseball practice and gave an interview on CNN where he blamed "hatefulness over policy differences".

The truth is that the RIGHT-wing media pretty much was the epitome of being hateful for the last 35 years, at least.

But it's true. The dude was a Left-wing nut job through and through. If this guy was a Tea Partier shooting up Democrats, you better believe the media would be running that angle 24/7 and sticking a microphone in every Republican's face forcing them to own this guy. They blamed Republicans for Gabby Giffords when the shooter turned out to be a non-political mental dude.

Democrats need to take ownership.

Left wing nuts always use threatening tactics to advance their political agenda. They "occupy" streets, they shout down and threaten conservative speakers at college campuses, they sue Christian photographers and cake bakers out of business, they boycott, and union goons slash tires and camp out in front of people's homes. Back in the 1960's and 70's left wing terrorist groups were bombing shit all over the country. Virtually all political violence and intimidation comes from the political left. Many of these violent leftists are still welcome in the Democrat party and have teaching gigs at universities (i.e. Obama's buddy Bill Ayers).
